You've Been Warned: Does Information About Pitfalls of Technological Toys Affect Caregiver Behavior?
Although the presence of toys in childhood has remained steady for decades, the types of toys that fill children's toy boxes have changed, especially over the last 10–15 years. Many of today's toys are marked by technological enhancements, from a shape sorter driven by a singing bear to robotic plastic animals designed to match a toddler's favorite television show. Although examining the effects of these changes is still an unexplored area, research to date suggests that there may be costs to the quality of caregiver–child interaction when using these toys together. This leads to two possibilities: (1) the design of the enhancements themselves hurt interactions; or (2) these toys can still be beneficial to interactions, but caregivers simply need to be aware of the potential pitfalls. In this study, we explore whether providing caregivers with a subtle cue about the potential negative impacts of technological toys on caregiver–child interaction affects their behavior. 相似文献

Abstract A study was made of the relationship of physique and developmental level, determined by use of the Wetzel Grid, to performance of junior high boys on four fitness tests: pull-ups, 50-yd. dash, standing broad jump, and softball throw. Subjects of different physique groups (heavy, medium, and thin) who were alike developmentally (accelerated, normal, and retarded) differed more markedly in performance than did subjects of different developmental levels who were alike with regard to physique. Subjects who were medium in physique and normal in development were the best performers. Subjects of heavy physique (many overweight) were the poorest performers. This would seem to indicate the need for a restudy of classification methods, particularly when norms are to be used for evaluating performance. 相似文献

Today's turbulent business and social environment often compels organizations to adopt internal programs that will help them cope with complexity. One organizational sector in which this is particularly true is the health care industry, as managed care programs and competitive forces have changed the way hospitals and clinics operate. This study looks at a specific organizational program designed to cope with these industry changes and considers the impact of the program on the nurses involved. Drawing on theory and research on role development and strategic ambiguity, this case analysis looks at a hospital system in which the nursing role of “care coordinator”; was defined in a strategically ambiguous way. After analyzing interviews with 19 care coordinators, conclusions are drawn regarding affective reactions to strategic role ambiguity, behavioral adaptation to strategic role ambiguity, and the importance of conceptualizing role ambiguity as a systemic process. 相似文献

This study investigated the relationship between psychopathology and shame. Three hundred and thirty-one Secondary 2 students from Singapore participated in the study. All students completed a self-report questionnaire consisting of the Anxiety and Depression scales of the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC), the short version of the Aggression Questionnaire (AQ), and the Internalized Shame Scale (ISS). As predicted, students in the comorbid group at-risk for anxiety, depression and aggression, had significantly higher shame scores compared with at-risk students in all the other three single-disordered groups (anxiety-only, depression-only, or aggression-only) as well as students in the control group. Also, as expected, the control group scored significantly lower compared to all other single-disorder groups and the comorbid group. Implications of these findings with regard to comorbidity of psychopathology and its relationship to shame, classroom interventions, as well as implications pertaining to teachers' and counsellors' work with at-risk students will be discussed. 相似文献

The U.S. government technical report is a primary means by which the results of federally funded research and development
(R&D) are transferred to the U.S. aerospace industry. However, little is known about this information product in terms of
its actual use, importance, and value in the transfer of federally funded R&D. Little is also known about the intermediary-based
system that is used to transfer the results of federally funded R&D to the U.S. aerospace industry. To help establish a body
of knowledge, the U.S. government technical report is being investigated as part of the NASA/DoD Aerospace Knowledge Diffusion Research Project. In this article, we summarize the literature on the U.S. government technical report and present the results of a survey
of U.S. aerospace engineers and scientists that solicited their opinions concerning the format of NASA Langley Research Center
(LaRC)-authored technical reports. To learn more about the preferences of U.S. aerospace engineers and scientists concerning
the format of NASA LaRC-authored technical reports, we surveyed 133 report producers (i.e., authors) and 137 report users
in March–April 1996. Questions covered such topics as: (a) the order in which report components are read; (b) components used
to determine if a report would be read; (c) those components that could be deleted; (d) the placement of such components as
the symbols list; (e) the desirability of a table of contents; (f) the format of reference citations; (g) column layout and
right margin treatment; and (h) writing style in terms of person and voice. Mail (self-reported) surveys were used to collect
the data. The response rates for report producers (i.e., authors) was 68% and for users, was 62%. 相似文献
