This paper explores the issues and concems identified by a small group of teachers implementing technology ideas using the
national document,A Statement on Technology for Australian Schools (Curriculum Corporation, 1994a), represented in four key questions they posed as a result of reflection upon their existing
ideas and practices, early in the study. These same issues and concerns framed their later experiences as the study progressed.
The case study of one of the teachers is used, to illustrate how the teachers implemented technology education working from
their own perspectives and tackling issues and concerns that made sense to them. By reviewing the teachers' own questions
about technology implementation, it is becoming, clear that what may be important for professional development in technology
education is related to the questions that the teachers themselves are asking about their own, beliefs and practices. 相似文献
This study explored whether children's (N = 158; 4- to 9 years old) nonverbal facial expressions can be used to identify when children are being deceptive. Using a computer vision program to automatically decode children's facial expressions according to the Facial Action Coding System, this study employed machine learning to determine whether facial expressions can be used to discriminate between children who concealed breaking a toy(liars) and those who did not break a toy(nonliars). Results found that, regardless of age or history of maltreatment, children's facial expressions could accurately (73%) be distinguished between liars and nonliars. Two emotions, surprise and fear, were more strongly expressed by liars than nonliars. These findings provide evidence to support the use of automatically coded facial expressions to detect children's deception. 相似文献
The school setting represents the most common setting by which youth receive mental and behavioral health (MBH) services (Farmer et al., 2003, Psychiatr Serv, 54, 60–66). Nevertheless, many school psychologists are not providing MBH services despite the high prevalence of need. Additional research is needed to understand factors leading to these deficits, as well as potential solutions to ameliorate these concerns. The current study surveyed 341 school psychologists across seven states and found current ratios are one school psychologist for every 1,500–2,000 students. Study results suggest school psychologists are providing a half to full day of universal, prevention-oriented MBH services each week whereas more targeted, direct services (e.g., individual or small group counseling) are offered 1–4 hr each week. The school psychologist-to-student ratios also demonstrated a statistically significant and inverse association with the provision of targeted MBH services, with higher ratios resulting in fewer MBH services. Respondents provided potential solutions for how to expand the delivery of MBH services within schools, including increased awareness and support among school and district administrators, as well as access to training and professional development related to MBH services. 相似文献
This paper reports on the second phase of a multi-country study examining cross cultural perspectives of gender and management in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). It examines the broader labour market context and legislative frameworks for higher education in each country and then analyses the literature on women in university management. The paper presents the findings of research with male and female senior managers about their perceptions of women as HEI managers within changing organisational and management structures. It concludes that although HEI’s are now largely aware of barriers to women getting into and on in senior management, they have not addressed the organisational structures and cultures that perpetuate this inequity.
One of South Africa’s identified priorities is the implementation of ICT in education. To this end a phased implementation
plan was initiated in 2004 for ICT to be implemented into schools across the country over eight years. During this time South
Africa also participated in three international studies undertaken by the International Association for the Evaluation of
Educational Achievement (IEA) focusing on ICT in Education. Each of these permitted the country to benchmark its progress
in terms of other countries and their implementation of ICT in education. The latest study, SITES 2006 provides a useful set
of indicators against which South Africa can evaluate its progress with regard to its implementation of ICT. This paper seeks
to evaluate South Africa’s readiness to integrate ICT into mathematics and science classrooms. This was done using a number
of indicators of “sustainable change” derived from SITES 2006 and then comparing these to countries such as Chile, Thailand
and Norway, the former two with similar context and conditions and the latter with contrasting conditions. The findings reveal
that whilst South Africa has made some progress since 1998 in terms of the implementation of ICT in education, that the majority
of schools are still in their infancy regarding the acquisition of ICT and most of those who have access are still in the
process of trying to integrate the ICT into their teaching and learning. It would appear that more fundamental needs in South
Africa’s education system have dominated its priorities. 相似文献
In this rejoinder, we respond to the major points made by Gallo-Fox (this forum), Beers (this forum), Carambo and Stickney
(this forum), and Murphy, Carlisle and Beggs (this forum). We focus primarily on the benefits and considerations that stem
from employing additional theoretical frameworks for analyzing research in coteaching. We also address some of the future
directions that should be explored in coteaching research.
The capacity to imitate facial gestures is highly variable in rhesus macaques and this variability may be related to differences in specific neurobehavioral patterns of development. This study evaluated the differential neonatal imitative response of 41 macaques in relation to the development of sensory, motor, and cognitive skills throughout the 1st month of life. The results show that infants who imitate facial gestures display more developed skills in goal-directed movements (reaching–grasping and fine hand motor control) than nonimitators. These differences might reflect, at least in part, the differential maturation of motor chains in the parietal and motor cortices, which partly overlap with those of the mirror neuron system. Thus, neonatal imitation appears to be a predictor of future neurobehavioral development. 相似文献
This article suggests that quality assessment in the UK has been largely set apart from learning and teaching and reports on a pilot project at the Hull York Medical School which attempted to integrate students’ evaluation of their clinical placements into the curriculum. It outlines the operational demands of this integrated method and compares the student experience of different evaluation methods. It argues that, when properly prepared and considered, evaluation can help students to practise useful skills and suggests that integrating this type of evaluation into the curriculum could be a step towards encouraging academic staff to engage with quality processes. 相似文献
