This study was conducted to find out the level of oxidative stress and effect of supplementation of vitamin C, D and Calcium
on levels of SOD, serum and urinary fluoride in children residing in endemic fluorosis area. For this the fluoride belt of
Jaipur district was selected. The parameters selected were Super oxide dismutase, serum fluoride and urinary fluoride. The
study was conducted on one hundred children, selected from four areas (25 from each area) consuming water containing 1.2,
2.4, 5.6 and 13.6 mg/l of fluoride. Drinking water fluoride, serum and urinary fluoride were measured by Ion selective electrode
method. Serum SOD by Xanthine oxidase method using kit of Ransod (kit cat. No. SD125). The post treatment values showed a
significant reduction in serum fluoride and SOD. Urinary fluoride levels increased significantly in post treatment stage.
The results revealed a normal SOD levels in all groups but an increasing trend was observed with increasing fluoride concentration.
Treatment with Calcium, Vitamin D and Vitamin C showed a significant reduction in serum fluoride and SOD and increase in urinary
fluoride. A high positive correlation between pretreatment and post treatment group was observed in serum fluoride, SOD and
urinary fluoride (P < 0.05). The study indicated an increasing oxidative stress in cases of fluorosis with increasing drinking
water fluoride concentration. Treatment with Calcium, Vitamin D and Vitamin C resulted a significant reduction in serum fluoride

ABSTRACTObjective: Memory loss affects a large proportion of older adults. Research indicates a positive association between memory training and better memory performance as people age. However, studies on specific memory training using an experimental design are limited. This study explored whether memory training has improved memory performance in a group of older adults.Method: A convenience sample of 48 participants was recruited from two communities. Disregarding dropouts, this left 23 experimental (mean age = 65.4 ± 6.0, range = 56–80) and 19 control participants (mean age = 64.5 ± 4.9, range: 57–72). The intervention consisted of 60-min classes held on a weekly basis continuing for 8 weeks. The class session was held after a 1-h exercise class and before a 1-h session of cognitive games. The pre–post objective memory performances, including associative, list, text, place, grocery learning, and transfer-effect of daily event memory (ecology validity), were examined to determine whether the intervention was effective.Results: Intragroup: With Wilcoxon test, the findings showed that the intervention of both the list and place learning had significant differences for the experimental group, but not for the control group. Intergroup: The main effects were found for the associative and text learning. The mixed design ANOVA indicated that there is an interaction (time x group) on the dependent variable of the place learning test. Daily events memory: We found within group that the pre–post differences were significant for the experimental group but not for the control group.Conclusion: The study showed that memory training can help older adults to ameliorate memory loss problems and these findings deserve more attention. 相似文献

The paper focuses on the convergence of Finnish research and education in archival science with information science in general
and in records management with information management in particular. Two issues influencing this development are: the convergence
of professionals previously worked in the archival and library sectors and in information management and services; and the
wide-spread, extensive growth in the use of digital technology to manage internal and external organizational information.
At the level of society the opportunities provided by digital technology to manage heritage information in memory organizations
like archives, libraries and museums, are tremendous and the role of documentary heritage at the global, European and national
levels is well recognized. These developments are changing the information and operating environments of memory organizations
and public and private enterprises. These changes, in turn, are generating new requirements in archival science and records
management education and research. This paper focuses on the implications of these changes for the planning, implementation
and further development of an information studies curriculum. This curriculum development is considered crucial in order to
respond to the new demands, and is also implicitly linked to the emerging Finnish information society.

Pancreatic fibrosis is a key pathological feature in the etiology of chronic pancreatitis that leads to obliteration of exocrine
and endocrine pancreatic tissues and its replacement by fibrous tissue resulting in clinical manifestations. Matrix metalloproteinase
9 is a member of the MMP family that is also known as gelatinase B, degrades type IV collagen of extracellular matrix and
basal membrane. The present study is aimed at evaluating the clinical significance of plasma concentration of MMP-9 in chronic
pancreatitis. The samples were obtained from 112 chronic pancreatitis patients and an equal number of age and sex matched
healthy controls. MMP-9 levels were quantitatively measured by ELISA assay. Statistical analysis was applied to test the significance
of results. The present study revealed a significant increase of plasma MMP 9 levels in chronic pancreatitis patients compared
to control subjects. Elevated levels were also observed in all the patient groups compared to control subjects with regard
to sex, age, addictions etc. MMP-9 degrades the type IV collagens in normal basement membrane, which in turn activates the
pancreatic stellate cells which promote the development of pancreatitic fibrosis. Thus, elevated plasma levels of MMP-9 may
act as a susceptibility factor for the development of chronic pancreatitis. 相似文献

Many traditional ethnic cultural items are being endangered in China. Using the Dongba dance culture of the Naxi people as a case study, this paper seeks to analyze and interpret the endangerment of culture from an educational perspective, based on an analysis of the interaction between the cultural transmission mechanism of Dongba dance and the formal schooling of the Naxi people in Lijiang, China. By describing and comparing the traditional and current forms of Dongba dance transmission, the paper shows how the institution of formal education competes with older modes of cultural transmission, resulting in the endangerment of Dongba dance as a living cultural relic. So, in order to truly realize and improve the function of education in transmitting cultural heritage and to guarantee educational equity, we should prioritize sophisticated ethnic minority cultural items in the assessment and selection phases of education, grant them institutional cultural capital, and put greater effort into developing an appropriate school-based curriculum so that ethnic minority culture may be transmitted and inherited via formal schooling. 相似文献

Premature coronary artery disease (CAD) is common in India. We, therefore, studied oxidative stress, dyslipidemia, and high
sensitivity-C reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in young CAD patients. Present study consisted of male CAD patients below 40
years and age and sex matched healthy controls (n=30 each). Fasting blood samples were analyzed for serum lipid profile, malondialdehyde,
antioxidant enzymes and hs-CRP levels. Dyslipidemia was observed in 90% of the young CAD patients, of which 72.2% showed increased
serum triglycerides and decreased HDL-cholesterol. LDL-cholesterol levels were high in 77.8%. Serum malondialdehyde and hs-CRP
levels were increased significantly (p<0.0001) as compared to controls. hs-CRP levels were in high risk range in all the young
patients. However, glutathione peroxidase activity was reduced significantly (p<0.05). Our data suggests that elevated hs-CRP
levels along with dyslipidemia and oxidative stress adds to the predictive value of premature CAD in young Indians. 相似文献

Although much has been written about formal archival spaces, little scholarship has addressed the physical spaces of community archives. This paper asks: How do community members imagine the physical spaces that steward identity-based community archives? Based on focus groups with more than 54 community archives users at five different community archives sites across Southern California, this paper examines how members of marginalized communities conceive of the physical space inhabited by community archives representing their communities. The sites explored range from a prominent location on a university campus, to storefronts, strip malls, and small cinderblock buildings. Yet across sites, users spoke about community archives spaces as symbolic and affectively moving locations. Many users described their community archives site as a “home-away-from-home,” marked by intergenerational dialog and a profound sense of belonging. For other users, community archives sites were described as “politically generative spaces” which foster dialog and debate about identity, representation, and activism and enable the community to envision its future. And yet, while the very existence of community archives is political, many participants felt that the full political potential of these sites is not yet realized. By listening to the voices of the communities represented and served by community archives, our research both indicates that a shift is warranted in archival metaphors of space and reveals how community archives are personally and politically transformative spaces for the communities they represent and serve. 相似文献

The growth of archival studies programs has prompted archival scholars to establish an international network for supporting collaborative research, curriculum development, and pedagogy. Doctoral education is key to the sustainability of such programs and the continuation of the network over time. We carried out longitudinal research to survey the population of doctoral students attending one or more Archival Education and Research Institutes (AERI), an annual meeting first held in 2009. Building on prior research on graduate archival education, we gathered demographic and qualitative data about doctoral students specializing in archival studies who are based in several countries including the USA. We sought to assess attendee motivations, guide conference planning, and help advance overall AERI objectives. Our study provides a baseline understanding of the disciplinary backgrounds, research directions, and specific professional development activities that doctoral students in archival studies pursued around the globe from 2013 to 2015. This paper argues that doctoral education should continue to be a particular subject of archival research and indicates how archival students’ range of academic interests is diversifying and strengthening the scholarly community. 相似文献

This article presents research and narratives on the integration of course-based peer learning assistants into seven courses.
A new curricular peer mentoring program was piloted in the 2005–2006 academic year in an interdisciplinary liberal arts college
at a large Canadian research university. Undergraduate students enrolled in a practicum course which supported their learning
while they collaborated with the “host instructor” of the course in which they served as peer mentor. Assistants’ roles varied
and included individual tutoring, help via email, online discussion facilitation, small group facilitation, in-class presentation
and discussion facilitation, and extracurricular study groups. Their integration into scheduled class activities resulted
in participating students’ perception of enhanced learning. Data included peer mentors’ assignments, host instructor feedback,
and student surveys.
