Training from cradle to grave? Social justice and training for people with learning difficulties

In this paper we question whether the radical change in the life situation of people with learning difficulties triggered by the closure of long‐stay hospitals does in fact represent an adequate inclusion into civil society or whether people with learning difficulties continue to experience strong exclusionary tendencies. We will explore the implications of a range of contemporary social justice theories for people with learning difficulties and examine the justice inherent in arrangements for training people with learning difficulties made by Local Enterprise Companies (LECs). We argue that training may be seen as a crucible of social values since its distribution transmits powerful messages about who is considered salvageable or unsalvageable, who is likely to become economically active and who is to be consigned to some special status of otherness. Finally, we consider what conceptualizations of social justice might hold out most hope for people with learning difficulties.

一个标准能适合所有的项目吗:开放教育的选择

基于支持全英开放教育资源项目(英国开放教育资源项目,简称UKOER项目)的经验,本文将探讨该项目开展过程中所涌现出的各种不同的开放教育资源描述方法,及其对资源共享、工作流程计划、资源聚集观的影响.由于UKOUER项目包括个人层面的项目、学科层面的项目和院校层面的项目,而这三种类型的项目又有各自不同的特点,显然难以用一种技术或者描述性的解决方案来适合所有的项目.因此,目前这些项目只提供有限的描述性信息,包括项目标签、作者、题目、日期、链接地址、文件格式、文件大小、权限,以及一些附加信息,包括语言、学科分类、关键词、标签、评论和描述.所有项目可以自由选择编码、存储和分享上述信息的方法.本文通过大量的例证介绍了项目的描述方法,其中还包括工作流程和所作出的尝试.我们将考虑所选择的工具(资源库、Web2.0应用、虚拟学习环境)与标准选择的关系,以及本地需求和更广泛社区需求之间的关系.我们会考虑这些选择对资源传播和发现的影响,例如,资源描述对大量开放教育资源的发现服务的影响.     

大学对区域经济发展的贡献——以加拿大大西洋省区为例

加拿大大西洋省区在历史上是加拿大较为贫困的地区,当地大学通过为地区经济发展提供人才支持和技术支持,并通过各种消费和购买活动推动了地区经济的发展和产业结构的升级,使该地区在较短时间内弥合了与其他经济发达地区的差距。其成功经验在于政府政策的支持、整体的高等教育战略,以及大学与政府和产业界的紧密合作。     

Anhydrobiosis

In aquatic and moist soil environments subjected to periodic drying, a diverse group of organisms (mostly microscopic) have evolved extreme desiccation tolerance through a physiological adaptation called ‘anhydrobiosis’. Notable among such organisms are tardigrades, bdelloid rotifers, and nematodes. Anhydrobiosis also allows these organisms to tolerate extreme temperatures and ionizing radiation. In this article, the signi-cance and some mechanisms of anhydrobiosis are described.

Tracking Club Sport Participation From Childhood to Early Adulthood

This study examined the strength of tracking sport participation from childhood to early adulthood among the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study cohort. Participation in sport, dance, or gymnastics as part of a club or group (outside of school) was assessed at ages 7, 9, 15, 18, and 21 years. In addition to the traditionally used correlation coefficients, summary statistics (intraclass correlations; ICC) from random effect models and stability coefficients from generalized estimating equations (GEE) were calculated using all the longitudinal data and controlling for the influence of covariates on tracking strength. Correlation coefficients revealed statistically significant tracking of club sport participation (7–21 years) at low levels (r = .07–0.28). The ICC summary statistic (0.23) was consistent with this, while the GEE suggested moderate tracking (0.59). The results of this study suggest that encouraging sport participation during childhood and adolescence may result in a modest increase in the likelihood of participation later in life. However, the substantial movement into and out of sport participation observed here and in other studies cautions against relying solely on sport promotion among youth as a strategy to promote lifelong participation.     

混合驱动四旋翼小型飞行器的设计研究

本文根据四旋翼飞行器的飞行原理和飞行姿态模型,提出一种四旋翼飞行器混合驱动的方案.该方案利用了多自由度机构特点,采用混合驱动的方式,推导飞行器的飞行姿态转矩调节的算法,为飞行器的控制提供理论支持.这种方案不仅减小了飞行器失衡概率,也为多旋翼飞行器的调整提供了一种新思路.
