MEMS Test System Based on Virtual Instrument Technology

On account of the multiformity of MEMS devices, it is necessary to integrate with some optical measurement techniques for meeting static and dynamic unit test requirements. In this paper, an automated MEMS test system is built of some commercially available components and instruments based on virtual instrument technology. The system is integrated with stroboscopic imaging, computer micro-vision, microscopic Mirau phase shifting interferometry, and laser Doppler vibrometer, and is used for the measurement of full-view in-plane and out-of-plane geometric parameters and periodical motions and single spot out-of-plane transient motion. The system configuration and measurement methods are analyzed, and some applications of the measurement of in-plane and out-of-plane dimensions and motions were described. The measurement accuracy of in-plane dimensions and out-of-plane dimensional is better than 0.2 μm and 5 nm respectively. The resolution of measuring in-plane and out-of-plane motions is better than 15 nm and 2 nm respectively.

Copolymerization of Acrylonitrile/1-Vinyl-3-Ethylimidazolium Bromide and Rheological,Thermal Properties of the Copolymer

Acrylonitrile(AN)/1-vinyl-3-ethylimidazolium bromide(VIMB) copolymer was prepared via solution polymerization using dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) as a solvent and azodiisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The effects of comonomer VIMB on the polymerization, rheological properties of the polymer solution and thermal properties of the copolymer were investigated. The ionic liquid VIMB resulted in higher polymerization conversion ratio and higher average molecular weight when copolymerized with AN than itaconic acid(ITA). Rheological measurements indicated that the transition shear rate increased linearly with increasing temperature for P(AN/ITA)/DMSO solution, while an exponential growth with temperature was observed for P(AN/VIMB)/DMSO solution. The exothermic peaks of DSC curves in N_2 appeared at 276.67 and 257.34 °C for P(AN/VIMB) and P(AN/ITA), respectively. As a potential comonomer of AN for PAN carbon fibers, the VIMB resulted in about 7% higher char yield in N_2, and 23.7% less weight loss at 600 °C in air than ITA copolymer.

3D finite element analysis of TBM water diversion tunnel segment coupled with seepage field

In most studies of tunnel boring machine(TBM)tunnelling, the groundwater pressure was not considered, or was simplified and exerted on the boundary of lining structure. Meanwhile, the leakage, which mainly occurs in the segment joints, was often ignored in the relevant studies of TBM tunnelling. Additionally, the geological models in these studies were simplified to different extents, and mostly were simplified as homogenous bodies. Considering the deficiencies above, a 3D refined model of the surrounding rock of a tunnel is firstly established using NURBS-TIN-BReP hybrid data structure in this paper. Then the seepage field of the surrounding rock considering the leakage in the segment joints is simulated. Finally, the stability of TBM water diversion tunnel is studied coupled with the seepage simulation, to analyze the stress-strain conditions, the axial force and the bending moment of tunnel segment considering the leakage in the segment joints. The results illustrate that the maximum radial displacement, the minimum principal stress, the maximum principal stress and the axial force of segment lining considering the seepage effect are all larger than those disregarding the seepage effect.

Influences on women's entry into male-dominated occupations

This article focuses on women's entry into male-dominated occupations in the United States. It looks at the impact of Title IX and related legislation which opened access to colleges and universities to women and examines the effects of initial or pre-enrollment student characteristics, organizational attributes of the college of university, student performance and experiences in higher education and the attributes of employing organizations on women's entry into male-dominated occupations. The article concludes with a model for measuring the relative influence of each.
