Knowledge sharing and rewards: a game-theoretical perspective

Shared databases are used as tools for knowledge management. But contributing knowledge to the database is a public-goods dilemma. Its specific features are multidimensionality of the goods, resource overlap, interdependency of group members and the lack of a marginal unit of return for individual contributions. An analytical model is presented describing the individual- and group-level payoff function. It shows that rewarding contributions with a cost-compensating bonus can be an effective solution not only at the individual level, but also at the group level. Whether or not a bonus system is self-supporting depends on the critical mass of people on average needing a contribution. This depends on the overlap of the people's resources and their interdependency.     

基于粗糙集理论的知识密集型服务业集群创新能力评价研究

在相关研究的基础上,运用粗糙集方法,对德国雷根斯堡地区的六个知识密集型服务业集群的创新能力进行了综合评价研究,结果表明软环境的建设和集群对入驻企业的影响这两个方面对集群的创新能力具有较强的影响。     

Generic two-degree-of-freedom linear and fuzzy controllers for integral processes

This paper presents a new framework for the design of generic two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF), linear and fuzzy, controllers dedicated to a class of integral processes specific to servo systems. The first part of the paper presents four 2-DOF linear PI controller structures that are designed using the Extended Symmetrical Optimum method to ensure the desired overshoot and settling time. The second part of the paper presents an original design method for 2-DOF Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy controllers based on the stability analysis theorem. Experimental results for the speed control of a servo system with variable load illustrate the performance of the new generic control structures.     

Die intrinsische Motivation zu wissenschaftlicher Arbeit als Problem von Universitätsorganisation und Leistungsmessung

Dieser Beitrag hat die organisatorischen Veränderungen an Österreichs Universitäten während der letzten 40 Jahre zum Gegenstand. Der Weg von der Ordinarienuniversität zur unternehmerischen Universität wird nachgezeichnet und die Chancen und Risiken einer Vermarktlichung der Koordinationsmechanismen an der Universität werden diskutiert. Probleme werden insbesondere bei der Messung und Steuerung wissenschaftlicher Leistung geortet. Als besonderes Risiko der unternehmerischen Universität wird die Verdrängung innerer Motivation durch äußere Motivation im Handeln von WissenschafterInnen gesehen.     

Mathematics education research in Poland

A short evaluation of the current status of mathematics education research in Poland is presented. This serves as a kind of framework for the four papers from Poland (by A. Demby, J. Konior, I. Trzcieniecka-Schneider and A. Urbaska) in this issue.     

Redefining Opportunity for the Library Employee with Autism: A Model of Positive Behavioral Support for Library Management

This article explores the 90% unemployment rate for job-seeking individuals with high-functioning autism, by presenting a theoretical model of positive behavioral support (PBS) adapted from the work of E.G. Carr and the information theory of Roger Greer, and considered within the context of library employment. The information transfer based model of PBS emphasizes the role of metalinguistic awareness and lexical-semantic processing in the design of traditional four-stage PBS intervention. This design may promote the successful employment of individuals with autism spectrum disorders within libraries and other settings.     

Evaluation der Erziehungswissenschaft

Auch die Erziehungswissenschaft ist gegenw?rtig mit wissenschaftspolitischen Erwartungen an Wettbewerb, Qualit?tssicherung und Evaluation konfrontiert. Der Beitrag analysiert Forschungsleistungen der Erziehungswissenschaft und nutzt dazu Daten des vom Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE) durchgeführten und in der Zeitschrift STERN ver?ffentlichten fachspezifischen Hochschulrankings. Er befasst sich zun?chst knapp mit der Kritik an diesen Hochschulrankings und reanalysiert dann die Daten im Blick auf Publikationen, Projektfinanzierung und Drittmitteleinwerbungen, auch im Vergleich zu anderen Disziplinen. Die Befunde zeigen eine relativ hohe Inklusionsbereitschaft unterschiedlicher Wissensformen, die nicht nur die evaluative, sondern auch die fachlich spezifische Definition und Bewertung von ‘Qualit?t’ erziehungswissenschaftlicher Forschung erschwert. Der Beitrag pl?diert für eine aktive und konstruktive Beteiligung der Erziehungswissenschaft an der Weiterentwicklung standardisierter, wissenschaftlich begründeter und zugleich auch wissenschaftspolitisch anschlussf?higer Indikatoren.     

The relationship between trainees’ evaluation of teaching and trainee performance among Norwegian executive students

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between students’ reactions to teaching and their consequent performance as measured by course grades. Reactions to teaching were reported by 189 adult part‐time students enrolled in postgraduate studies over two consecutive academic semesters across six different study programs in a large Norwegian training institution. These students’ reactions to teaching were then assessed in relation to their consequent performance, in terms of their individual final course exam grades. The results showed that students’ reactions to teaching were unrelated to their consequent course performance. Implications for practice and directions for future research are discussed.
