敦煌中国星空:综合研究迄今发现最古老的星图(下)

本文主要分析斯坦因1907年在敦煌所得的星图手卷,认为此星图是用精确的数学方式绘制的。推断星图绘制于公元649—684年间,而非先前推断的公元940年。并与后世的星图做了比较。     

SEARCHING THE LITERATURE OF AGING: GERONTOLOGY REFERENCE SOURCES

Gerontology is a multidisciplinary field with a need for specialized sources of information. Standard reference tools can be used in a search for gerontological literature; however, many questions are more easily searched with specialized works. The publication of acquisitions lists from gerontology centers, the development of the National Clearinghouse on Aging, and the trend toward new reference books in gerontology are encouraging the development of bibliographic control of resource materials. This article discusses various reference tools in gerontology and points out areas for further growth.     

Teacher epistemology and collective narratives: Interrogating teaching and diversity

This action research study interrogates how one teacher educator analyzed her pedagogy and engaged her students in writing narratives about working with children, families, and co-workers who are racially and ethnically different from themselves. Data were collected from a special topic graduate course entitled, Epistemology, Diversity and Teaching, at a large Midwestern university. Issues such as “otherness”, the culture of power, and white privilege were some key concepts addressed in the course. Findings indicated that use of key readings and meaningful discussion on controversial issues enhanced students’ ability to take multiple perspectives, recognize the significance of student epistemology, and acknowledge the importance of culturally relevant pedagogy to meet the needs of a diverse student body.     

Exploring models of information behaviour: the ‘uncertainty’ project

This paper reviews a number of models of information behaviour and introduces a model based on the goal-directed behaviour of problem solving. A key part of the problem-solving process is held to be that of ‘uncertainty reduction’ and this aspect of the information seeking and searching process is currently being explored in a project supported by the British Library Research and Innovation Centre. Preliminary results from the pilot phase of the Project are presented which suggest possible lines of further investigation.
