It is suggested widely that the use of computer technology holds great promise for school science education. Such a suggestion is congruent with broader beliefs that implementation of new technology is a key to improving education. However, little is known still about computer use in science classrooms and its effects on students' learning. This paper draws on major findings from recent research, integrates these with theoretical perspectives from associated education literature, and proposes guidelines for orienting computer use in high school science classrooms. It is proposed that (a) pedagogy should be strongly informed by appropriate theoretical orientations, (b) the importance of models in science should be acknowledged in pedagogy and in software development, (c) developing students' metacognition during instruction involving computers should be focussed upon, and (d) teachers' and students' beliefs and epistemologies should be recognised as key factors in educational change involving computer implementation and use.  相似文献

Fifty graduate students in rehabilitation counseling were surveyed regarding their attitudes toward the Protestant Work Ethic (PWE) using the original and a modified form of the Bowling Green University Survey of Work Values. Results indicated that the students were more likely to endorse those aspects of the PWE reflecting the intrinsic value of work than those dealing with earnings, social status, and advancement. In addition, the students were found to generally hold the same PWE orientation for themselves as they did for disabled persons.  相似文献

This paper seeks to explore some of the implications that recent critiques of therapeutic language have for counselling and Pastoral Care. Are we in the midst of a creation of a more caring and emotionally intelligent society or in danger of losing individual autonomy and political power by the inadvertent construction of a 'fragile self'? Does this apparent valorization of the emotional become an emotionalism that destroys autonomy and undermines our power to think and act rationally? What are the implications of the increased acceptance of the need for emotional expression: does this in turn become new conformity where the private space of the individual is policed by counsellors in the name of the state? This paper supports the observations that the new cultural trend towards giving primacy to emotional expression can have deleterious political and social effects but seeks to distinguish counselling and psychotherapy from the 'therapism' of popular culture.  相似文献

Joe Wittmer and Thomas Sweeney, Executive Director and Chairperson, respectively, of the APGA Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, respond to the article, “Counselor Education and the Psychology of More” (Pipes, Buckhold, & Merrill, 1983), found elsewhere in this issue.
