Since our first studies of information and communications technology (ICT) skills and ICT use at universities in 2004, ICT and its use by students has changed greatly. In order to obtain a more detailed picture of ICT skills, we first construct a new instrument to measure the self-perception of ICT skills (49 items) and of ICT use (53 items) by students. This allows us to find some patterns for ICT skills and ICT use. In order to explain these patterns, two basic hypotheses are formulated. The first suggests that positive ICT learning experiences at home, in school, and with peers could contribute to mastering a higher level of ICT skills and more frequent use of ICT among bachelor’s students, a hypothesis that aligns with Dewey’s learning theory. The second hypothesis suggests that there is a similarity between the characteristics of information systems and scientific research, and that students who identify more with scientific research would be more likely to have greater ICT skills and a higher frequency of ICT use. Both hypotheses are tested among bachelor’s students, using some important contextual variables (gender, domain of study, ICT course in secondary school or at university, and education level of parents). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between the ICT learning experience and the research-oriented identity commitment of bachelor’s students on the one hand, and their command of ICT skills and the frequency of use of computers, ICT instruments, and ICT programs on the other. 相似文献
This paper investigates the role of economic factors in the university enrollment decision for the post-war period in The Netherlands. We include those factors standing at the heart of the idea that education is an investment. The econometric results suggest that students are not responsive to tuition fees, but financial support (the sum of loans and grants), the college premium on future labor market earnings, and the alternative wage are important in the enrollment decision. 相似文献
Zusammenfassung In diesem Artikel mochten wir einerseits die umstrittene Langewel‐lentheorie beschreiben, die in wirtschaftlichen Kreisen vom Scheinwerfer des Interesses beleuchtet wird. Dabei schenken wir der ebenso umstrittenen Erklärungstheorie Schumpe‐ters fur diese Langewelle unsere besondere Aufmerksamkeit.
Wir legen uns anderseits die Frage vor, ob ein Zusammenhang besteht zwischen dieser Langewelle und den Möglichkeiten, über die man während einer festgesetzten Periode verfügt, um gewisse Innovationen bei der Lehrerbildung einzuführen, zu realisieren und besonders die Kosten dafür zu tragen.
Wir versuchen, unsere Annahme, ‘dass tatsächlich ein solcher Zusammenhang besteht’, zu erläutern mit einer Beschreibung einiger Auffallenden Gegebenheiten der Evolution der (west) deutschen Lehrerbildungen gegen den Hintergrund der Langewelle.
In weiteren Untersuchungen werden wir versuchen, diese provisorisch verfasste aber verantwortbare Annahme zu überprüfen und nachzuweisen. Im Interesse der Sache wäre es zu begrüssen, wenn auch andere Forscher die Folgen fur die Integration der Lehrerbildungen studieren mochten. Single‐best answers to multiple‐choice items are commonly dichotomized into correct and incorrect responses, and modeled using either a dichotomous item response theory (IRT) model or a polytomous one if differences among all response options are to be retained. The current study presents an alternative IRT‐based modeling approach to multiple‐choice items administered with the procedure of elimination testing, which asks test‐takers to eliminate all the response options they consider to be incorrect. The partial credit model is derived for the obtained responses. By extracting more information pertaining to test‐takers’ partial knowledge on the items, the proposed approach has the advantage of providing more accurate estimation of the latent ability. In addition, it may shed some light on the possible answering processes of test‐takers on the items. As an illustration, the proposed approach is applied to a classroom examination of an undergraduate course in engineering science. 相似文献
A previous study (Luwel, Verschaffel, Onghena, & De Corte, 2000) revealed that 2nd and 6th graders use at least 3 different kinds of strategies for determining different numerosities of blocks presented in square grids: (a) an addition strategy by means of which (groups of) blocks are counted (and added), (b) a subtraction strategy in which the number of empty squares is subtracted from the total number of blocks in the grid (i.e. the anchor), and (c) an estimation strategy, whereby the number of blocks is determined in a quick but imprecise way. Although 6th as well as 2nd graders used the clever subtraction strategy, the majority of 2nd graders had serious trouble with the correct determination of the anchor, resulting in huge numerosity judgement errors. Since this finding seriously complicated the testing of a number of hypotheses in that study, we replicated the above study but presented the children information about the grid size. This manipulation led to a substantial increase in the proportion of appropriate subtraction strategy users and made it possible to investigate the effect of several subject and task variables on the frequency, accuracy, and adaptiveness with which the different strategies were applied.
