Child Care Choices is an example of new early childhood research based on a relationship between policy makers and researchers.
It is also an example of large-scale longitudinal team-based research into early childhood in Australia. The ongoing study
addresses the professional problem for practitioners and policy makers of the increasing use of multiple care settings and
changes to care arrangements in the early years and their possible impacts on child development. The project will follow an
initial sample of 693 families with a child aged from birth to three years over a three-year period. An ecological framework
is used to include the influences on child development of characteristics of the children and their families, their city or
country location, as well as their childcare history and current care arrangements. Development is measured in terms of children’s
health, motor development, social and emotional development, language and communication as well as emerging literacy and numeracy.
The article discusses the unique features of the project in Australian early childhood research, its history, preliminary
findings, and the potential of this kind of large-scale, longitudinal team-based research conducted in partnership with policy
makers to contribute to policy as well as to theoretical debate. 相似文献

Using a qualitative research methodology involving face-to-face and telephone interviews, the researchers explored the construct of compassion in mental health counseling. The construct of compassion has been empirically studied in many helping professions; however, most studies have focused on counselors working with trauma victims in medical settings and large-scale disasters. The sample comprised 16 mental health counselors (i.e., 13 females and 3 males) who were licensed professionals working in the state of Ohio. Three major themes emerged from the data: (a) client population, (b) work environment, and (c) coping mechanisms. In Australia, teachers are expected to teach a diverse range of students, including children adopted from overseas who have experienced attachment disruption and complex trauma early in life. International research identifies the potential vulnerability of this minority group at school. However, teachers’ backgrounds, knowledge and experience, as well as curriculum policies and school practices, may influence how teachers respond to the diverse needs of these children. Drawing on examples from a qualitative study which used focus group interviews and a multi-case study of 10 adoptive families, this article applies developmental and social constructionist perspectives to analyse the potential impact some common curriculum units may have on these children’s experiences of school. This paper reports on the way in which various units in the Australian Curriculum may provide obstacles and opportunities for inclusion, with particular examples provided from the English and History Curriculum. Findings show there is a need for greater awareness, understanding and sensitivity in teaching approach, as well as flexibility in teachers’ professional agency and discretion in the selection of resources when responding to the educational needs of intercountry adoptees. 相似文献

Acrylonitrile(AN)/1-vinyl-3-ethylimidazolium bromide(VIMB) copolymer was prepared via solution polymerization using dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) as a solvent and azodiisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The effects of comonomer VIMB on the polymerization, rheological properties of the polymer solution and thermal properties of the copolymer were investigated. The ionic liquid VIMB resulted in higher polymerization conversion ratio and higher average molecular weight when copolymerized with AN than itaconic acid(ITA). Rheological measurements indicated that the transition shear rate increased linearly with increasing temperature for P(AN/ITA)/DMSO solution, while an exponential growth with temperature was observed for P(AN/VIMB)/DMSO solution. The exothermic peaks of DSC curves in N_2 appeared at 276.67 and 257.34 °C for P(AN/VIMB) and P(AN/ITA), respectively. As a potential comonomer of AN for PAN carbon fibers, the VIMB resulted in about 7% higher char yield in N_2, and 23.7% less weight loss at 600 °C in air than ITA copolymer. 相似文献
