The Duke Youth Academy for Christian Formation attempts to join Freirean educational theory on contextual pedagogies with ancient Christian practices of the ordo toward the formation and theological education of Protestant Christian high school students. This article describes and reflects on the character and ultimately the success of this odd coupling. While attempting to demonstrate how the ordo as pedagogy may be made inviting to adolescent contexts and to evoke and value the particularities of their experiences, including their experiences of difference, this article also asserts that the ordo provides the additional benefit (sometimes absent from contextual pedagogies utilized by religious educators) of offering ample resources for theological formation, reflection, and construction. 相似文献

Can two apparently totally different secondary school subjects join forces in an attempt to enrich the learning processes of both? The authors address this question by describing an experimental lesson in which student‐teachers verbalize their preconceptions concerning a natural object (mushrooms) while in the same lesson they do a personal response activity for a poem by Sylvia Plath entitled ‘Mushrooms’. The results indicate that student teachers of different disciplines find this to be a meaningful teaching approach. It proved to be a motivating way to evoke preconceptions about a natural phenomenon by means of a poem and resulted in an enhanced awareness of mushrooms, which culminated in questions on both their growth and reproduction. Moreover, their ‘literary’ interest in the poem and the writer appeared to be stimulated. Possible applications in teaching and teacher training are discussed. 相似文献

From 1963 to 1971 about 2.8 million East German school children participated in nine nationwide mathematical competitions. The 1329 most successful participants were selected for further study. In 1970/71 and in two follow ups in 1983 and 1993, data on 23,000 relatives of these children were gathered. The data indicated the existence of a strong relationship between mathematical‐technical giftedness in school and achievement in life. There was evidence from the distribution of high professional achievement among the relatives that such achievement needs not only nurture but also an appropriate genetic background, which seems to be transmitted as a simple Mendelian trait, now open to investigation by molecular genetics. 相似文献
