Social constructivist account of the world’s largest gay social app: Case study of Blued in China

Abstract

Given China’s political conservativism and limited social acceptance of sexual minorities, it is paradoxical to find that Blued, a gay social app headquartered in Beijing, has become the largest app of this kind globally. Informed by the social construction of technology perspective and based on a yearlong ethnography, this article identifies three major factors that have shaped the developmental trajectory of Blued: (1) work with the Communist Party of China to employ Blued as a health education platform; (2) switch in orientation from a hookup app to a social app; and (3) push for the commercialization and internationalization of the app. This article spotlights that the voices of users were missing in the development process and argues that, for Blued to continue maintaining its success, it must stop relying on the “I-methodology” in its design and development. Lastly, it contributes to the SCOT scholarship and social app studies by deciphering the role of the state in app development in the Chinese context.

随着“互联网+”在经济社会各领域的广泛应用,以手机为主的移动通讯设备已成为国内大学生普遍应用的交流工具,并潜移默化地改变着大学生的学习、生活、交流方式及思想。高校传统党建工作无论在内容上、形式上或宣传教育渠道上都存在一定的局限性,研究“互联网+党建”的深度融合,有利于拓展党建宣传教育空间,同时提高大学生思想政治工作的实效性,全面提升高校学生党建工作的整体质量和水平。     

Road to international publications: an empirical study of Chinese communication scholars

This paper examines factors motivating Chinese communication scholars to publish in international journals and how these factors shape their knowledge production. We also investigate these scholars’ treatment of particularity, which is central to debates on Asian approaches to communication scholarship. Based on in-depth interviews with 22 Chinese communication scholars, this study finds that Chinese scholars choose to publish overseas both as a result of institutional incentives and an attempt to relieve themselves from institutional and sociopolitical constraints in China. While promoting international publications, these institutional and sociopolitical factors also markedly influence the knowledge production process, leading to the segregation of international and local knowledge production; scholars’ active self-censorship; and their efforts to subject to perceived international biases. The study also demonstrates that while adopting an eclectic and pragmatic attitude toward particularity, Chinese communication scholars are generally cautious of advocating particularity. The attitudinal and behavioral eclecticism and institutional and sociopolitical constraints jointly result in a fragmented particularity in the international publication of Chinese communication scholars. The findings’ implications for Asian approaches to communication studies are discussed.

基于互联网1至5元文法语料库的多词表达自动提取

多词表达是自然语言中的常见现象,其自动提取对很多自然语言处理任务有着举足轻重的作用。本研究以Google公司发布的基于公共网页的1至5元文法语料库作为词频统计的依据,同时结合自动词性标注的信息,对英国国家语料库的书面语材料部分进行多词表达的自动提取。研究结果表明,该方法能够充分利用Google语料库的精确词频信息,从而提高了多词表达抽取的准确率,并且能够较好地缓解数据稀疏现象带来问题。

灿烂弧菌M-1菌株培养条件优化研究

采用梯度法比较了培养时间、温度、盐度、初始pH值、菌液起始浓度等对灿烂弧菌（Vibrio splendidus）M-1菌株生长的影响;采用正交试验法对Zobell 2216 E培养基组分进行了优化。结果表明：M-1菌株产最大活菌数的培养条件为：培养时间48 h、温度32℃、盐度40、初始pH值8.0、菌液起始浓度为1×105 CFU/mL;最佳培养基成分为：蛋白胨7.5 g/L、酵母浸出膏1.5 g/L、CuSO4 0.075 mg/L、CaCl2 0.04 g/L。     

双音述宾结果补语“动结式”初探——兼论韵律运作、词语整合与动结式的生成

汉语动结式内部是非同质性的,情况非常复杂。本文讨论的是由双音述宾形式充当结果补语构成的动结式(V+VN),这种格式具有独特的句法语义特征,是韵律运作、词语整合的结果,值得进一步探索。本文主要讨论两个问题:第一,V+VN动结式的句法特征;第二,V+VN动结式的形成机制。
