This review presents the extensive work carried out on lipid components of dermatophytes, their biosynthesis, turnover and regulation. It emerges from the work done so far that the pathways of lipid biosynthesis/ degradation and the lipid composition in dermatophytes are similar to those in yeasts and other fungi. Second messengers (Ca2+, cAMP) were demonstrated to have a regulatory role in phospholipid metabolism and they mainly act by stimulating Ca2+/CaM or cAMP dependent protein kinase(s). Both these kinases were purified and characterized inMicrosporum gypseum. Further work is being carried out to elucidate the molecular mechanism of regulation of phospholipid metabolism by these second messengers. 相似文献

The University of the South Pacific is owned by 12 nations in the South Pacific Ocean. The institution provides higher education through its 14 campuses, with at least 1 campus per member country. To be able to overcome the geographical divide and isolation, while ensuring high-quality learning and teaching, the university utilizes Internet, satellite, and mobile devices and other Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools and technologies to provide virtual classroom experience. This article outlines the approaches adopted in offering a first-year chemistry course, in parallel, through face-to-face and distance modes. The novel attributes of bridging the geographical divide are presented. The documentation of lead toxicity (plumbism) dates back to the times when man learnt its various applications. This versatile heavy metal is non-degradable and its ability to get accumulated in the body that goes undiagnosed, makes it a serious environmental health hazard. Lead is now known to affect almost every organ/tissue of the human body. With irreversible effects on neurobiological development of young children and foetus, its toxicity has lasting implications on the human life. Outlining the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment therapy for lead poisoning, the present review elaborates the pathophysiological effects of lead on various organs. This will be of immense help to the health professionals so as to inculcate a better understanding of the lead poisoning which otherwise is asymptomatic. With chelation therapy being the classic path of treatment, new strategies are being explored as additive/adjunct therapy. It is now understood that lead toxicity is completely preventable. In this regard significant efforts are in place in the developed countries whereas much needs to be done in the developing countries. Spreading the awareness amongst the masses by educating them and reducing the usage of lead following stricter industry norms appears to be the only roadmap to prevent lead poisoning. This study examines changes in attitudes, teaching efficacy, and concerns about inclusive education in a sample of 2361 teachers in Hong Kong who took a professional learning course about inclusive education. Participants completed a questionnaire seeking demographic information and their perceptions about these three aspects of inclusive education both before and after their course. Items were selected from the Sentiments, Attitudes, and Concerns about Inclusive Education Scale Revised and Teacher Efficacy for Inclusive Practices scales that were of relevance to the objectives of this study. The results indicate that in all three areas of acceptance, teaching efficacy, and concerns about inclusive education, positive improvements were made as a result of training, although generally this improvement was strongest in areas that teachers felt were under their direct control. The small amount of change in areas that teachers felt were not under their control may indicate that whatever change initiatives are put in place, they need to be holistic and systemic. 相似文献

The study includes 102 confirmed cases of carcinoma breast with and without metastasis and 25 healthy non-pregnant females.
They were evaluated for blood levels of Ferritin, GSH, LDH, ALP, GGT and Hb before and 21 days after mastectomy. A significant
increase (p<0.001) was observed in ferritin, LDH and GSH levels in cancer patients without metastasis in comparison to normal
control subjects. Patients with metastasis had further elevated (p<0.001) levels of Ferritin, ALP and GGT as compared to non-metastatic
patients. Mastectomy in both the cases i.e. with and without metastasis resulted in non-significant decrease in all the biochemical
parameters suggesting that longer follow up could confirm post surgery decrease in the biochemical parameters. The results
of the study suggest cost effective, usefulness of Ferritin, ALP, GGT and GSH/Hb ratio in differentiating breast cancer patients

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP; E.C.3.I.3.1.) is an ubiquitous membrane-bound glycoprotein that catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphate monoesters at basic pH values. Alkaline phosphatase is divided into four isozymes depending upon the site of tissue expression that are Intestinal ALP, Placental ALP, Germ cell ALP and tissue nonspecific alkaline phosphatase or liver/bone/kidney (L/B/K) ALP. The intestinal and placental ALP loci are located near the end of long arm of chromosome 2 and L/B/K ALP is located near the end of the short arm of chromosome 1. Although ALPs are present in many mammalian tissues and have been studied for the last several years still little is known about them. The bone isoenzyme may be involved in mammalian bone calcification and the intestinal isoenzyme is thought to play a role in the transport of phosphate into epithelial cells of the intestine. In this review, we tried to provide an overview about the various forms, structure and functions of alkaline phosphatase with special focus on liver/bone/kidney alkaline phosphatase. 相似文献
