Pathways to Employment and Quality of Life for Apprenticeship and Traineeship Graduates with Disabilities 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

People with disabilities have low participation rates in employment and vocational education and training. Thirty adults with disabilities were sampled from an Australian longitudinal study of economic and social outcomes achieved by graduate apprentices and trainees. Participants were surveyed and interviewed to identify pathways from high school to 12-months post-graduation and completed the Quality of Life Questionnaire (QOL.Q). Career pathways incorporated experiences facilitating career development including continuous engagement in vocational activities and support from school personnel and external disability agencies. A year following graduation, 87% were in paid work, 53% remained with the training employer, and 40% continued with vocational education. Positive quality of life (QoL) outcomes were associated with employment, employee benefits and satisfaction with work and social connections. Our research demonstrated that apprenticeships and traineeships led to positive graduate employment outcomes and career pathways for adults with disabilities. Positive employment outcomes were associated with enhanced QoL for participants. 相似文献

Compared to the literature on children's racial and ethnic identities, relatively little is known about their understanding of national identity. Such knowledge is necessary if schools are to challenge racism, xenophobia and ethnocentrism effectively. In this paper, we present the findings of a case‐study (undertaken in a mainly‐white Edinburgh primary school) of 9‐11 year‐olds’ understanding of this complex form of collective identity. Particular attention is given to age‐related differences in response. Comparisons are drawn between the Scottish children's conceptions of their national identity and those of a multiethnic cohort drawn from three English primary schools (in a recently‐completed, parallel investigation by the same authors). Events occurring on the prior trial in delayed matching-to-sample tasks can proactively interfere with accurate matching on the current trial. The present study investigated the accumulation of proactive interference in delayed matching-to-sample at the local level of two consecutive trials, as well as in terms of a general performance decrement accumulating over the session. Higher-order analyses, in terms of the parameters of negative exponential functions fitted to the data, showed that the magnitude of the local proactive-interference effect resulting from inter-trial disagreement of stimuli decreased over the session. Furthermore, there was no evidence for the general performance decrement over the session, which is frequently attributed to proactive interference. The attenuation of the local proactive-interference effect was accounted for in terms of changes in the relative probabilities of agreeing and nonagreeing trials. 相似文献

This article explores, in the context of prevailing discourses around the value of the arts and culture, the reasons why the UK's Arts & Humanities Research Council launched a research project on cultural value and sets out the character of that project. It is concerned with arts and cultural engagement across the commercial, subsidised, amateur, and participatory sectors; embraces the full range of arts and cultural forms; and seeks to reach beyond dichotomies such as intrinsic and instrumental, high and low art, quantitative and qualitative evaluation, and public and private experiences. The article explains the project's thinking around the components of cultural value and the methodologies for evidencing them, and highlights some of the key research being funded. 相似文献
