This study investigated how Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) data from the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) was cited in the scholarly literature. It addressed the following research questions: (1) What patterns of citations exist among authors of research articles using HINTS data? and (2) How is the citation format of HINTS data characterized? We collected scholarly articles that used HINTS data as primary or secondary data for analysis from Web of Science databases and HINTS publications on the NCI website. Among the resulting 250 articles, we identified citations to HINTS data themselves (data citations) and those to HINTS‐related documents (data‐related citations). Among the 250 articles, 156 articles (62.4%) cited HINTS data or HINTS‐related documents; only 29 articles (11.6%) cited HINTS data, while 127 (50.8%) cited HINTS‐related documents. Both data and data‐related citations increased over time. Data citation format varied, and 13 different compositions of citation elements were identified. Author, Title, and Location (URL) were common elements. The frequent use of URLs is undesirable due to URL instability. Furthermore, the data citations showed not only various compositions of citation elements but also ill‐defined element formats. Standardized citation formats are therefore needed. 相似文献

This article investigates whether knowledge of Internet usage among older adults is related to social capital as well as their expectations to obtain social support online. The flat dilatometer test (DMT) has the potential to be a useful tool in the evaluation of liquefaction potential of soils.
In practice, it is necessary to carefully examine existing DMT-based methods for evaluating liquefaction potential. We conducted
the DMT and cone penetration test (CPT) in high liquefaction potential areas to examine the existing DMT-based methods for
liquefaction potential evaluation. Specifically, the DMT and CPT were conducted side-by-side at each of six in-situ sites,
and thus it is feasible to utilize those test results to validate the existing DMT-based methods. The DMT parameter, horizontal
stress index (K
D), is used as an indicator for estimating liquefaction resistance of soils in terms of cyclic resistance ratio (CRR). The
analysis results revealed that the existing K
D-based liquefaction evaluation methods would overestimate the CRR of soils, which leads to overestimation of the factor of
safety against liquefaction. Also, the estimations of DMT-K
D values by using the CPT-q
c as well as the correlation between DMT-K
D and CPT-q
c proposed by the previous studies would be significantly smaller than field measurements. The results reflected that further

This study explored the range of participation taking place in the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) online communities
and focussed on participants who defined themselves as not actively contributing to the online discussion. We called these
non-contributory participants “readers” Whilst we recognised that an individual community member’s degree of participation
might simply reflect their choice, we wanted to ensure that where fuller active participation was sought, there were no system
or personal barriers to prevent it. A literature review with a dual focus was therefore made, the first element being factors
in the online environment that might affect participation, and the second being personal motivation where we drew especially
on dynamic motivation theory. A questionnaire was constructed based on this dual review. This had questions that generated
both numerical and text based responses. After a pilot study, alterations in the questionnaire were made and the revised version
was sent to 2,600 recently active community members. Over 750 replies were received yielding qualitative and quantitative
data. Of these, 587 identified themselves as “readers” and only their responses were analysed for this paper. Analysis produced
a very rich picture of motivational factors affecting participation in online communities. Benefits of various types of online
interaction were put forward and suggestions about barriers to online interaction were made. This paper suggests that online
participation may be seen as a continuum and that non contributory online participants (readers) are a far from homogeneous
group ranging from those who experience technical and personal barriers to those who value and gain much from readership.

Students enter college chemistry courses with different sources of motivation, appropriate or inappropriate assumptions about
their probability of success and how to study. This study is theoretically aligned with self-regulated learning research.
Clearly, academic performance is closely related to student motivational beliefs and learning strategies. This study investigated
the motivational beliefs and learning strategies of 2 years of college students in the second semester of organic chemistry.
Responses to the Motivational Beliefs and Learning Strategies Questionnaire indicated that student self-efficacy was highly
correlated with academic performance (semester grades). Gender differences were quite pronounced. Male academic performance
was associated with intrinsic motivation as well as the importance placed on the learning task. Test anxiety was negatively
associated with male grades. Extrinsic motivation was negatively correlated with female grades. Responses to students’ sense
of control over learning, the value of the learning task, and self-efficacy were significantly higher for males compared to
females. Faculty who attend to these different patterns may influence beliefs as well as learning strategies. Correcting erroneous
assumptions about how to learn chemistry may help students shift both their attitudes and their learning practices. The notable
gender difference suggests that female chemistry students may especially profit from focused faculty intervention. 相似文献

Despite the limitations of overgeneralizing cutoff values for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA; e.g., Marsh, Hau, & Wen, 2004), they are still often employed as golden rules for assessing factorial validity in sport and exercise psychology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the appropriateness of using the CFA approach with these cutoff values for typical multidimensional measures. Furthermore, we ought to examine how a model could be respecified to achieve acceptable fit and explored whether exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) provides a more appropriate assessment of model fit. Six multidimensional measures commonly used in sport and exercise psychology research were examined using CFA and ESEM. Despite demonstrating good validity in previous research, all eight failed to meet the cutoff values proposed by Hu and Bentler. ESEM improved model fit in all measures. In conclusion, we suggest that model misfit in this study demonstrates the problem with interpreting cutoff values rigidly. Furthermore, we recommend ESEM as a preferred approach to examining model fit in multidimensional measures. 相似文献

This article presents a hypothetical dialogue between a notational analyst (NA) recently schooled in the positivistic assessment of athletic performance, an ‘old-school’ traditional coach (TC) who favours subjective analysis, and a pragmatic educator (PE). The conversation opens with NA and TC debating the respective value of quantitative and qualitative methods of performance analysis. Having considered their arguments from a-distance, PE offers a philosophically underpinned point of view that helps to practically reconcile NA's and TC's opposing positions. While primarily focusing on practical issues relating to the analysis of athletic performance, PE contends that ‘quantitative’ and ‘qualitative’ approaches can be legitimately used in combination. Such a stance would appear in-line with a pragmatic philosophical perspective, which by focusing on practical issues embraces pluralistic methods. It is hoped that this dialogue will facilitate further philosophical and practical debate to generate knowledge that could enrich coaches' understanding by presenting an approach to performance analysis that is more realistic for practitioners. 相似文献

Obesity discourse provides a commonly recycled rationale for multiple, ostensibly well-intended, interventions. Formal educational settings sometimes operate as sites for these biopedagogies which putatively promote ‘good health’ among young people as they transition to ‘responsible’ adulthood. Yet, regulation and control, or the pursuit of social fitness, may be more pressing concerns. Drawing from an ethnography of a ‘Health and Youth’ college initiative in Northeast England, directed at recalcitrant boys who risked school exclusion, this article considers how the war on obesity provided a rationale for middle-class efforts to instil civility. Despite educators' best intentions, the initiative also provided a stage and props for cruder forms of bullying among the boys. This article critiques (un)civilised fat oppression in this setting as part of a larger interrogation of the state sponsored anti-obesity offensive. The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the X-factor computation methods and to examine whether direct relationships exist between the X-factor parameters and the clubhead velocity in a group of skilled male golfers (n = 18, handicap = ? 0.6 ± 2.1). Five driver trials were captured from each golfer using an optical motion capture system (250 Hz). Two plane-based methods (conventional vs. functional swing plane-based) and one Cardan rotation-based method (relative orientation) were used to compute select X-factor (end of pelvis rotation, top of backswing, ball impact (BI), and maximum), X-factor stretch (stretch and maximum stretch), and X-factor velocity (BI and maximum) parameters. The maximum clubhead velocity was extracted and normalized to golfer's body height to eliminate the effect of body size. A one-way repeated MANOVA revealed that the computation methods generated significantly different X-factor parameter values (p < 0.001). The conventional method provided substantially larger X-factor values than the other methods in the untwisting phase and the meaningfulness of select X-factor parameters generated by this method was deemed questionable. The correlation analysis revealed that the X-factor parameters were not directly related to the maximum clubhead velocity (both unnormalized and normalized). 相似文献
