Coating behavior and surface hardening of Pd77Cu6Si17 thin film metallic glass on AZ31 magnesium alloy

Pd77Cu6Si17 （PCS） tbin film metallic glasses （TFMGs） with high glass forming ability and hardness were selected as a hard coating for improving the surface hardness ofAZ31 magnesium alloy. Both microindentation and nanoindentation tests were conducted on specimens with various PCS film thicknesses from 30 to 2000 nm. The apparent hardness and the relative indenta- tion depth （fl） were integrated using a quantitative model. The interaction parameters involved and relative hardness values were extracted from iterative calculations. According to the results, surface hardness can be enhanced greatly by PCS TFMGs in the shallow region, followed by gradual decrease with increasing fl ratio. In addition, specimens with thinner coatings （e.g., 200 nm） showed greater substrate-film interaction and those with thick coatings （e.g., 2000 nm） became prone to film cracking. The op- timum TFMG coating thickness in this study was estimated to be around 200 nm.     

无线网络下的动态分块校验机制（英文）

由于无线链路易受到外界干扰，导致数据传输的误码率较高，从而使得数据包成功传输概率降低。而误码所造成的丢包会使无线链路上的TCP传输自动降速，从而对正常的TCP数据传输造成较大影响。针对上述问题，本文在802.11协议的MAC层提出了一种新的校验机制，采用动态分块校验的方法对数据包进行验证，并采用新的方法来计算重传次数。实验表明，本校验机制可以有效提高数据包成功传输概率，进而改善了无线链路上的TCP传输性能，同时保证了多个数据流传输的公平性和数据的正确性。     

Analysis of Bcl I and Xba I polymorphism in factor VIII gene to detect carriers of haemophilia a in Andhra Pradesh

The efficacy of two intragenic polymorphic markers of factor VIII gene has been examined in Andhra Pradesh population with a view to confirm/revise the strategy for carrier detection that would be precise and economical. The haemophilia A carrier was detected using Bcl I and Xba I polymorphic sites in intron 18 and 22 respectively. The cumulative efficiency of these two sites for detection of carriers is 100% since all 15 families tested were informative for one of these polymorphisms, thus confirming their usefulness for factor VIII gene mutations found in Andhra Pradesh.

K-12 teachers’ perceptions of and their satisfaction with interaction type in blended learning environments

Blended learning is an effective approach to instruction that combines features of face-to-face learning and computer-mediated learning. This study investigated the relationship between student perceptions of three types of interaction and blended learning course satisfaction. The participants included K-12 teachers enrolled in a graduate-level course. Results indicate that students (a) perceived interaction as important to their learning experiences and (b) were moderately satisfied in their blended learning course. The predictive model of student satisfaction including three types of interaction was reliable. Of the three types of interaction, learner–content interaction was the strongest predictor of student satisfaction when the course design involved a low amount of collaborative activities. Additionally, student personality was found to be a vital factor for interaction and satisfaction in this type of course design. Students who reported having an extroverted personality noted more interaction and a higher level of student satisfaction than those who self-reported as introverted.

Modulating chemotaxis of lung cancer cells by using electric fields in a microfluidic device

We employed direct-current electric fields (dcEFs) to modulate the chemotaxis of lung cancer cells in a microfluidic cell culture device that incorporates both stable concentration gradients and dcEFs. We found that the chemotaxis induced by a 0.5 μM/mm concentration gradient of epidermal growth factor can be nearly compensated by a 360 mV/mm dcEF. When the effect of chemical stimulation was balanced by the electrical drive, the cells migrated randomly, and the path lengths were largely reduced. We also demonstrated electrically modulated chemotaxis of two types of lung cancer cells with opposite directions of electrotaxis in this device.     

Therapeutic potential of traditional Chinese medicine for vascular endothelial growth factor

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the main regulator of physiological angiogenesis during embryonic development, bone growth, and reproductive function, and it also participates in a series of pathological changes. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), with a history of more than 2000 years, has been widely used in clinical practice, while the exploration of its mechanisms has only begun. This review summarizes the research of recent years on the influence of TCM on VEGF. It is found that many Chinese medicines and recipes have a regulatory effect on VEGF, indicating that Chinese medicine has broad prospects as a complementary and alternative therapy, providing new treatment ideas for clinical applications and the theoretical basis for research on the mechanisms of TCM.
