As business environments become more complex and reliant on information systems, the decisions made by managers affect a growing
number of stakeholders. This paper proposes a framework based on the application of normative theories in business ethics
to facilitate the evaluation of IS related ethical dilemmas and arrive at fair and consistent decisions. The framework is
applied in the context of an information privacy dilemma to demonstrate the decision making process. The ethical dilemma is
analyzed using each one of the three normative theories—the stockholder theory, stakeholder theory, and social contract theory.

With the fast development of acoustic systems in clinical and therapeutic applications, acoustically driven microbubbles have gained a prominent role as powerful tools to carry, transfer, direct, and target drug molecules in cells, tissues, and tumors in the expanding fields of targeted drug delivery and gene therapy. The aim of the present study is to establish a biocompatible acoustic microfluidic system and to demonstrate the generation of an acoustic field and its effects on microbubbles and biological cells in the microfluidic system. The acoustic field creates non-linear oscillations of the microbubble-clusters, which results in generation of shear stress on cells in such microsystems. This effectively helps in delivering extracellular probes in living cells by sonoporation. The sonoporation is investigated under the combined effects of acoustic stress and hydrodynamic stress during targeted drug and gene delivery. 相似文献

Adult learners are already involved in the process of self-regulation; hence, higher education institutions should focus on strengthening students' self-regulatory skills. Self-regulation can be facilitated through formative assessment. This paper proposes a model formative assessment strategy that would complement existing university teaching, and can be used in higher education to promote student-centered self-regulated learning with minimal effort and time input from teachers. Based on this model, a real-world teaching example on writing an essay as a challenge task has also been developed. This model strategy incorporates Nicol and Macfarlane-Dick's seven principles of good feedback practice that promotes self-regulation. 相似文献

The multivariable approach to the synthesis of networks composed of a finite number of uniform lossless transmission lines, commensurable or incommensurable, and lumped passive elements is verified by showing that the multivariable rational matrix, W(λ0,λ1, .. ,λn) is bounded real in (n + 1) complex variables if and only if W is bounded real in p after substituting, λ0 = α0p + β0 and λi = tanh (αip + βi) for λi (1?i?n) where all the α's and β's are nonnegative and arbitrary, except for being not simultaneously zero in like indexed pairs. Gender bias exists in our language environment. We investigated personal name usage in two large corpora of language written for and by U.K. children aged 5–13. Study 1 found an overrepresentation of male names in children’s books, largely attributable to male authors. In stories written by over 100,000 children, Study 2 found an overall male bias that interacted with age. Younger children wrote more about their own gender. With age, girls became more balanced yet boys continued to show a strong male bias. Our findings demonstrate a male-centered bias in both children’s books and their own writing. We consider the power of written language to both shape and be shaped by cultural stereotypes via systematic biases in gender associations. 相似文献

This study uses case study analysis to explore the ways that Spelman College, a historically Black women’s college, promotes
the attainment of African American women in STEM fields. Although limited to one institution, the findings shed light on the
ways that institutional characteristics, policies, and practices may mitigate the barriers that limit attainment of African
American women in STEM fields. Drawing on the findings, the paper concludes with recommendations for improving policy and

The objective of the present study is to evaluate the beneficial effect of tomatoes, which are rich source of Lycopene, relatively
a new carotenoid known to play an important role in human health and disease. In this study lipid peroxidation rate was measured
by estimating Malondialdehyde and the levels of serum enzymes involved in antioxidant activities like Super Oxide Dismutase,
Glutathione Peroxidase, Glutathione Reductase, Reduced Glutathione, in type-II diabetic group (n=40) and age matched control
group (n=50), and observed significantly lower levels of antioxidant enzymes and very high lipid peroxidation rate in type-II
diabetes when compared to control group (p<0.001). Short term supplementation with tomatoes (cooked) to diabetic group for
a period of 30 days, showed a significant improvement in antioxidant enzyme levels (p<0.001) and decreased lipid peroxidation
rate (p<0.001) suggesting the supplementation with tomato lycopene may serve as the best method of preventing the oxidative

Objectives:
Attending professional continuing education (CE) is an important component of librarianship. This research study identified librarians'' preferences in delivery modalities of instruction for professional CE. The study also identified influential factors associated with attending CE classes.Methods:
Five instruction-delivery modalities and six influential factors were identified for inclusion in an online survey. The survey completed by members of the American Library Association (ALA), Special Libraries Association (SLA), and Medical Library Association (MLA) provided the data for analysis of librarian preferences and influential factors.Results:
The majority of respondents were MLA members, followed by ALA and SLA members. Librarians from all three library associations preferred the face-to-face instructional modality. The most influential factor associated with the decision to attend a professional CE class was cost.Conclusions:
All five instruction-delivery modalities present useful structures for imparting professional CE. As librarians'' experience with different modalities increases and as technology improves, preferences in instruction delivery may shift. But at present, face-to-face remains the most preferred modality. Based on the results of this study, cost was the most influential factor associated with attending a CE class. This may change as additional influential factors are identified and analyzed in future studies.Highlights
- Despite the many technological advances in the education arena, librarians prefer face-to-face instruction (direct interaction with instructors and other participants, hands-on experience, focused learning). This creates a dilemma as increased budgetary constraints are a barrier to attending face-to-face professional continuing education (CE) classes.
- Librarians in all age groups preferred the traditional classroom style of face-to-face instruction to web-based methods.
Implications
- Instructors and course designers face a challenge in incorporating the perceived advantages of face-to-face instruction into the more affordable modalities of online instruction.
- As cost becomes more of a factor for attending professional CE classes, web-based asynchronous and synchronous modalities offer important, less expensive, alternatives.
