The authors present the results of a survey of district-level school counseling supervisors in Virginia. The results indicate that few school divisions employ individuals with the title of guidance supervisor. In divisions where such positions exist, they are staffed most often by individuals with guidance training and experience. The supervisors surveyed indicated that they spend a substantial portion of their time providing direct consultative support and assistance to counselors, engage in few research activities, and have few consultative contacts with counselor educators. Recommendations regarding school counselor supervision are offered based on survey data. 相似文献

This investigation employed a multiple baseline design across five participants to examine written emotional expression as an intervention to improve lung function in high school‐aged students, college students, and adults with asthma. The predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1 measure of large airway functioning) and forced expiratory flow (FEF25–75 measure of small airway functioning) were evaluated using spirometry. In addition, anxiety was measured using state and trait anxiety self‐report scales. Generally, results were effective. Individuals with asthma are at higher risk for increased hospitalization and death. For the school‐aged population, asthma is associated with increased absenteeism, restriction of various class activities such as physical education, and poor relationships with peers. Therefore, adults and children with asthma are in need of services and school psychologists appear uniquely qualified to intervene. More recently, the role of the school psychologist is diversifying with corresponding training (e.g., wellness, consultation, prevention, assessment and treatment of health issues) in the areas of health‐related disorders that involve a psychological component. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This investigation examined the effect of the race of both the subjects (Ss) and examiners (Es) on the 5's performance on an individually administered vocabulary test. The tests administered by two white and two Negro Es to 88 and 113 white and Negro first-grade and kindergarten Ss, respectively, in an integrated urban school found a small but statistically significant interaction of E's race and S's race on test performance for the first-grade but not for the kindergarten. These findings are limited to young children who were in an urban school setting for at least five months and who were given an encoding type task by an adult whom they had usually seen at least once a day in their school environment. 相似文献
