Dynamic properties of composite cemented clay

In this work,the dynamic properties of composite cemented clay under a wide range of strains were studied considering the effect of different mixing ratio and the change of confining pressures through dynamic triaxial test. A simple and practical method to estimate the dynamic elastic modulus and damping ratio is proposed in this paper and a related empirical normalized formula is also presented. The results provide useful guidelines for preliminary estimation of cement requirements to improve the dynamic properties of clays.     

Supporting the Narrative Development of Young Children

This article presents the developmental continuum of children’s storytelling skills and provides examples at each of five levels: labeling, listing, connecting, sequencing and narrating. The authors connect these developing narrative skills to communication, literacy and cognition. Strategies to facilitate development from one level to another are described.     

A cognitive/experiential approach to aural rehabilitation

This paper describes an experiential speechreading course that was designed to provide hearing-impaired students with real-life communication experiences. The course, intended to function as a supplement to traditional speechreading courses, was evaluated with a self-evaluation questionnaire completed by students who took the course and by a matched control group. Results indicate that the course was effective in increasing student self-perceptions of communication success in real-life situations.     

A novel reduction of diketones with i-RMgBr catalyzed by Cp<Subscript>2</Subscript>TiCl<Subscript>2</Subscript> and deoxygenation of sulfoxides by Cp<Subscript>2</Subscript>TiCl<Subscript>2</Subscript>/Al system

α-diketones and β-diketones react with Grignard reagents in the presence of a catalytic amount of Cp₂TiCl₂ to yield α-ketols and corresponding ketones respectively. Sulfoxides can be deoxygenated by Cp₂TiCl₂/Al system. The possible mechanisms are also discussed.
