“So, where do they fit in?” Teachers’ perspectives of multi-cultural education and diversity in Singapore

This qualitative study attends to six Singaporean teachers’ experiences of diversity and understanding of multicultural education to illuminate the influence of national policies and narratives on teachers’ perceptions and practice. These cases illustrate that, beyond reflection on identity and diversity, there is a need for teachers to examine how political, cultural, and economic principles have shaped their understanding of diversity and multicultural education. The authors discuss findings in light of socio-political constraints faced by Singapore teachers and forward implications for teacher education.     

Negotiating for change: women’s movements and education reform in Taiwan

The dramatic changes during the past 20 years in Taiwan offer a good example of how gender policy in education is facilitated by a combination of interrelated economic, political and social forces. Taiwan’s policy on gender education emerged from the interaction of state, education, academic and non‐academic feminist positions in reforms. This paper demonstrates – first, the importance of the socio‐political contexts in which reform was proposed, and second, the actions of feminists in making best use of the opportunities thrown up by a confluence of social factors. The social, economic and political transformations of the 1980s saw the rise of a ‘new’ state both supposedly and in reality more responsive to the needs of non‐profit organisations. In testing out relationships of partnership with the state, feminist activists saw the deregulation of education as an opportunity to get women’s issues on the agenda. These reforms were catalysed by a series of social events bringing together supporters in a mood of celebration, protest or mourning specifically in response to particular events. The struggles, contentions, and negotiations that underlay the eventual approval of gender reform in education are illustrated.

How does collaboration affect researchers’ positions in co-authorship networks?

Collaboration usually has a positive effect on researchers’ productivity: researchers have become increasingly collaborative, according to recent studies. Numerous studies have focused on enhancing research collaboration by recommendation technology and measuring the influence of researchers. However, few studies have investigated the effect of collaboration on the position of a researcher in the research social network. In this paper, we explore the relationships between collaboration and influence by social analytical methods, which are pertinent to analyzing the network structure and individual traits. We evaluate three aspects of the researchers’ influence: friendship paradox validation, social circle, and structure of a researcher's ego network. Furthermore, the ”six degrees of Bacon number” theory, generalized friendship paradox, and triadic closure theory are introduced to support our analysis. Experimental results show that collaboration can help researchers increase their influence to some extent.     

新建本科院校图书馆规划要素设定及建设重点研究——以保山学院图书馆建设为例

图书馆建设是新建本科院校规划建设中的核心内容之一。保山师范高等专科学校升格为本科学院后,图书馆作为学校办学的重要组成部分理应及时全方位升级。根据国家教育部相关规定,新升格本科院校5年后要接受教育部高校本科教学工作水平合格评估,图书馆建设达标情况是其中一项重要的检查考核指标。以保山学院升本后的图书馆建设为例,讨论了高校本科教学工作水平合格评估背景下新建本科院校图书馆建设的目标定位,发展思路,建设重点及工作原则,方法步骤,提出了对照评估指标搞好学院图书馆建设的基本对策建议。     

专利标准化对技术创新的影响及对策

技术标准与专利结合,使得专利技术标准化趋势出现。这既有专利权主体受利益驱动的主观原因,也是客 观因素使然。专利技术标准化对技术创新有积极影响,但亦可能造成技术创新惰性和阻碍技术创新。为克服专利技术标 准化对我国企业技术创新的不利影响,应完善与技术标准相关的法律制度,尤其是专利信息披露制度;建立协调、整合 机制,促进技术标准与技术创新的良性互动;发挥政府作用,促进事实标准形成;推动开放标准的制定和实施等。     

从IC到AC:国外大学图书馆学术共享空间的发展与启示

随着读者需求的个性化,信息共享空间开始向不同的模式发展。学术共享空是信息共享空间功能的扩展。国外的学术共享空间两种服务模式即机构知识库和"一站式"学术支持服务,对我国大学图书馆服务创新有三点启示:构建学术服务平台,提高人员素质和结构,加强评价与跟踪。
