Reliability of the new environmental paradigm for analysing the environmental attitudes of Senegalese pupils in the context of conservation education projects

The New Environmental Paradigm scale for children was developed and validated in Western nations but has seldom been applied in non-western countries. The aim of the current study is to examine the scale’s validity for schoolchildren in Senegal. The study was conducted in three regions of Senegal in November and December 2015, and a total 782 schoolchildren with an average age of 13 years participated. We used Cronbach’s alpha and confirmatory factor analysis to assess the consistency of the scale. The principal component analysis was used to reveal the different potential dimensions of our data-set. Given the low internal consistency of the scale and the unexpected responses to certain items, the scale seems to be rather unreliable for the investigated population. This difference could be caused by specific cultural features encompassing strong religious beliefs, different understandings of the place of humankind in nature, and weak awareness of humans’ impact on the natural world.

Digital approaches to researching learners’ computer interactions using gazes, actions, utterances and sketches

When learners use computers, they typically look at the screen, type, use the mouse, talk, write, sketch and make gestures. This paper identifies technical, practical, ethical and methodological challenges associated with traditional methods for studying such interactions. It examines the potential of recent technologies for identifying learners?? attention, recording real-time writing and sketching, and analyzing multiple data feeds in an integrated way. A study of learners?? interactions with multiple representations is used to illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of digital approaches to collecting, coordinating and analyzing observational data. The paper argues that there is a need for research into frameworks for analyzing digital data of learners?? computer interactions in systematic and principled ways.

Play-based interview methods for exploring young children’s perspectives on inclusion

Inclusive education provides learning opportunities for children with disabilities in regular settings with other children. Despite the prevalence of inclusive education, few qualitative studies have adequately explored young children’s perspectives on inclusion. This paper reviews the findings of a preliminary qualitative study where play-based interviews were conducted with 12 typically developing children enrolled in one of two childcare lab schools. Study methods provided an opportunity to assess play-based interview techniques where young children were asked to describe their views on inclusive education. The findings demonstrate that play-based methods allow young children of various ages to identify complex issues related to inclusion. The authors call for additional research that examines research methods in early childhood settings on multi-faceted issues regarding educational policies and practices as a way to attenuate young children’s lack of participation in curriculum development.

我国处理涉外民商事关系时对国际惯例的适用——以国际私法的渊源为视角

我国现行法律虽然明确规定在处理涉外民商事关系时可以适用国际惯例,但并未对可予适用的国际惯例的性质作出明确具体的规定。那么,最可取的思维路径则应该从国际惯例本身来分析其性质。我国处理涉外民商事关系时适用国际惯例,必须以我国法律和我国缔结或者参加的国际条约无明文规定为前提,且只能参照适用,同时适用的结果不得违背我国的社会公共利益和我国当事人的合法权利和利益。
