Undergraduate students in an introductory-level geoscience course successfully designed and conducted a science badge day for the Junior Girl Scouts. With national concerns that girls turn away from science at a young age, a service-learning project was incorporated into a college course with the end result providing a group of girls a positive and fun science-learning experience. A number of science and technology badges exist for the Girl Scouts, yet not many of these badges have been completed because of a lack of confidence the troop leaders have in teaching science and a paucity of scheduled science events for the leaders to take their girls. Junior Girl Scout troops were invited to the Pennsylvania State University Delaware County campus to complete a series of hands-on dinosaur science activities that allowed them to earn the Science in Everyday Life badge. At the conclusion of the badge event, the girls reported a greater interest in science, a desire to learn more science, and a desire to complete additional science-related Girl Scout badges.  相似文献

Due to the increased pressure from test‐based accountability practices, teachers have reported high levels of stress and burnout. High teacher stress has an impact on school outcomes, including links to absenteeism, burnout, school climate, and teacher behavior management. Teacher stress interventions may be an important first step toward reducing these negative outcomes. Although there have been several recent intervention studies in the domain of teacher stress, there has been no systematic review to compare the type and effectiveness of teacher stress interventions. Included within this review are interventions from a variety of modalities such as knowledge‐based, behavioral, cognitive‐behavioral, and mindfulness approaches. Results indicated that the most effective interventions were in the mindfulness, behavioral, and cognitive‐behavioral domains. Interventions which delivered solely informational content were among the least effective.  相似文献

采用环氧基封端的聚癸二酸二甘醇酯(EP-PDGS)对环氧树脂进行增韧改性,通过拉伸测试、冲击测试、动态热机械性能(DMA)分析等手段研究了EP-PDGS对环氧树脂的增韧效果.EP-PDGS可以参与固化反应,将柔性链段引入到交联网络中,扩大交联点间的距离,使三维网络结构的变形能力得到提升,从而提高环氧树脂的韧性.结果 表明EP-PDGS和环氧树脂相容性良好,通过力学性能、热性能等研究发现,EP-PDGS对环氧树脂具有较好的增韧改性效果,尤其在低温环境下的拉伸性能显著提升.  相似文献

This paper investigates economic and psychological hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic among a diverse sample (61% Latinx; 16% White; 9% Black; 14% mixed/other race) of socioeconomically disadvantaged parents (90% mothers; mean age = 35 years) and their elementary school-aged children (ages 4–11; 49% female) in rural Pennsylvania (N = 272). Families participating in a local food assistance program reported on food insecurity (FI) and parent and child mood and behavior daily from January to May 2020. Longitudinal models revealed that FI, negative parent and child mood, and child misbehavior significantly increased when schools closed; only FI and parent depression later decreased. FI decreased most among those who received the local food assistance program; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program receipt uniquely predicted decreases in child FI.  相似文献

生物量是生态系统获取能量能力的集中体现, 对生态系统结构的形成具有十分重要的影响。草地生态系统是陆地生态系统分布最广的生态类型之一, 在全球变化中的作用非常重要。本文以新疆天山中部的巴音布鲁克高寒草甸为研究对象, 选取了黑花苔草(Carex melantha)、鬼见愁锦鸡儿(Caragana jubata)和线叶嵩草(Kobresia capillifolia) 3种典型的群落类型,开展了生物量研究。结果表明:①黑花苔草群落盖度最大, 为100%, 物种数最低, 每平方米拥有植物8种~11种。鬼见愁锦鸡儿群落盖度次之, 为86.14%, 物种组成丰富, 每平方米拥有植物12种~15种。线叶嵩草群落盖度最低, 55.7%, 每平方米拥有植物13种~16种;②各群落内部的物种丰富度与地上生物量之间无显著关系, 而群落间表现出负相关, 差异极显著;③黑花苔草群落的地下生物量最大, 线叶嵩草群落次之, 鬼见愁锦鸡儿群落最低, 分别为13 608.8g/m2、6 097.8g/m2和2 554.74g/m2;④3种群落的地下生物量呈现出“T”形分布的模式, 且集中分布在0cm~10cm的土层中;⑤3种群落的地上生物量与土壤含水量呈极显著正相关, 地下生物量受相对湿度影响较大,二者也呈极显著正相关。  相似文献

The Claude Moore Health Sciences Library co-sponsors a History of the Health Sciences Lecture Series in the fall and spring of each year. Each lecture is produced and recorded for the benefit of the University of Virginia Heath System and members of the surrounding community. In the fall of 2005, the Library decided to begin podcasting the lectures via the Internet. This article describes the investigation process for creating access to the content via podcast, Webcast, and direct download. The article also addresses how the Library is teaching podcasting in its annual Multimedia Bootcamp and exploring additional uses for podcasting. doi:10.1300/J115v26n01_02.  相似文献

International large-scale assessments are on the rise, with the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) seen by many as having strategic prominence in education policy debates. The present article reviews PISA-related English-language peer-reviewed articles from the programme’s first cycle in 2000 to its most current in 2015. Five literature bases were searched, and results were analysed with SPSS. Results map the frequency of publications according to journal, country, and scientific discipline. They also summarise major themes within three identified categories: secondary analysis, policy impact, and critiques. Findings indicated that studies based on the PISA dataset has led to progress in educational research while simultaneously pointing to the need for caution when using this research to inform educational policy.  相似文献
