This paper challenges the approach that we traditionally take to research (in the realm of Early Childhood) within our colleges and universities. It asks why we have obediently adopted an outmoded and entirely inappropriate approach to research which disempowers and alienates the practitioners that we are working with. This paper calls for Early Childhood tutors to challenge existing regimes in order to introduce students to research that is both meaningful and purposeful for their practice. It embeds purpose and ethicality at the heart of practitioner research. 相似文献

Military officials continually search for improvements in processes that focus on high‐performance outcomes. This qualitative study investigated process improvements of two departments within the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (the Security Department and the Testing Department) by assessing performance levels of the two departments using a combinatorial model from human performance theory and Six Sigma theory. Study findings produced strong empirical evidence with specific recommendations for initiating cost‐effective interventions for improvements. The Behavior Engineering Model was used to identify possible solutions to post‐training performance gaps identified during the evaluation. 相似文献

In this study, we examined how learners developed scientific explanations about light with the assistance of various technology-based
scaffolds. The study emphasis was on scaffolding processes of reflection and articulation. We used a content-neutral software
program (Progress Portfolio) to create the instructional scaffolds. A qualitative research design was used to investigate
two pairs of prospective teachers in a science content course in engineering. Our findings suggested that the computer-based
scaffolds used in our study were useful to support articulation, reflection, and revision of explanations, when certain conditions
were met. A major theme of our findings relates to interacting effects among learner characteristics, teacher coaching, software
scaffolding design, and task characteristics.

In the United States today, urban schools serve the majority of high-poverty and high minority populations including large
numbers of Hispanic students. While many Hispanic students perform below grade level in middle school science, the science
teaching community as a whole is lacking elements of diversity as teachers struggle to meet the needs of all learners. Researchers
have recognized that science teacher effectiveness, one consequence of self-efficacy among teachers, is associated with future
science achievement and science-related careers of their students. This qualitative study explores how three science teachers’
effectiveness in the classroom impacts students’ science self-efficacy beliefs at one urban middle school. Hispanic students
were the focus of this investigation due to demographics and history of underperformance within this district. Teachers’ perspectives,
as well as outside observer evaluations of instructional strategies and classroom climates were triangulated to explore dynamics
that influence students’ interests and motivation to learn science using a framework to link teachers’ sense of efficacy (focusing
on student outcomes). Findings suggest the impact teacher effectiveness can have on student outcomes, including strengthened
student science self-efficacy and increased science achievement. Building awareness and support in teachers’ sense of efficacy,
as well as developing respectful and supportive relationships between educator/facilitator and pupil during the transition
to middle school may construct permanence and accomplishment for all in science. 相似文献

The world has been turned upside down by a global health emergency caused by the Covid-19. Given the high contagiousness of the virus and the need to contain its spread, social distancing rules, self-isolation policies, and geographical lockdowns have been enforced globally. Over the pandemic emergency the majority of the planned in-person meetings and congresses of national and international anatomical societies have been postponed or canceled. It is unclear what the future holds, but times of crisis often present possibilities for re-thinking old ways to achieve a more critical approach. It has become increasingly clear that traditional in-person congress formats of scientific societies need to be reevaluated. Over the past year and a half, two types of congressional modalities have been trialed to address the challenge of the pandemic as far as scientific meetings are concerned: the fully virtual congress, in which case the conference program is live streamed to all of the attendees, and the hybrid congress, in which case some of the attendees physically participate at the congress's venue while others interact via a virtual platform. The current study set out to investigate the technical difficulties, social challenges, costs and sustainability, logistics and management issues linked to holding various types of congresses in the post-Covid world. Anatomical societies throughout the world are actively striving to reshape their response to the current global emergency and to uncover new types of conference modalities in the effort to keep scientific exchange alive and flourishing in the post-Covid era. 相似文献

SYNOPSIS Objective . To explore whether maternal sensitivity is associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) severity in children with and without ASD. Design . The samples consisted of 25 Mexican dyads of children with ASD (aged 3.1-6.9 years) and their mothers (aged 20-47 years) and 24 Mexican dyads of children without ASD (aged 3.4-6.7 years) and their mothers (aged 24-45 years). Maternal sensitivity and ASD severity symptoms were scored from 2-h videos of mother-child daily interactions. Results . A between-group comparison showed a trend toward less severe ASD in children with highly sensitive mothers, specifically in the Nonverbal Communication subdomain. Conclusions . Greater maternal sensitivity is associated with improved social ability in children with ASD. 相似文献

The aim of this observational study is to explore how history teachers promote historical contextualisation in their lessons. Historical contextualisation is the ability to situate phenomena and individuals’ actions in the context of time, historical location, long-term developments, or specific events to give meaning to these phenomena and actions. Using the Framework for Analysing the Teaching of Historical Contextualisation (FAT-HC), five trained raters observed eight history teachers twice. To further analyse the observation scores, the FAT-HC items were divided into eight categories while distinguishing between items that demonstrate historical contextualisation and items focusing on engaging students in historical contextualisation processes. The results indicate that the teachers in the sample did not explicitly promote historical contextualisation in their lessons. No teacher obtained a mean FAT-HC score >2.00 on a four-point scale. The teachers mainly demonstrated historical contextualisation, while engaging students in historical contextualisation processes was observed far less often. The findings can be used to help teachers formulate domain-specific instruction to promote students’ ability to perform historical contextualisation. 相似文献

Medical Gross Anatomy lecture at the University of Padova, Italy. Gross Anatomy at the University of Padova is taught utilizing both traditional and technological resources, which are integrated with practical laboratory exercises (mainly on plastic models and plastinated specimens) as well as radiological anatomy. In this issue of ASE, Dr. Veronica Macchi and her colleagues from the Department of Human Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Padova discuss an innovative pilot project with their University Hospital in which they obtain body parts removed from patients during surgical procedures and utilize them for gross anatomy education. The cover photograph shows one of the co‐authors of this paper, Professor Raffaele De Caro and his students, performing dissection of the distal forearm and hand in the anatomy lecture theater at the University of Padova. 相似文献
