This study explores how a three‐way collaboration between a University library, writing centre and faculty created avenues of training and support for students within a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in an American University. The role of each partner involved in the collaboration is discussed alongside the profile of the DNP students. Lesson planning and classroom techniques for DNP information literacy classes are described and feedback from the partners and the students are discussed. The study confirms that collaboration is effective in improving research and writing skills. D.I. 相似文献
Web 2.0 refers to an emerging social environment that uses various tools to create, aggregate, and share dynamic content in ways that are more creative and interactive than transactions previously conducted on the Internet. The extension of this social environment to libraries, sometimes called Library 2.0, has profound implications for how librarians will work, collaborate, and deliver content. Medical librarians can connect with present and future generations of users by learning more about the social dynamics of Web 2.0's vast ecosystem, and incorporating some of its interactive tools and technologies (tagging, peer production, and syndication) into routine library practice. doi: 10.1300/J115v26n01_01. 相似文献
Intelligent use of the many diverse forms of data available on the Internet requires new tools for managing and manipulating
heterogeneous forms of information. This paper uses WHIRL, an extension of relational databases that can manipulate textual
data using statistical similarity measures developed by the information retrieval community. We show that although WHIRL is
designed for more general similarity-based reasoning tasks, it is competitive with mature systems designed explicitly for
inductive classification. In particular, WHIRL is well suited for combining different sources of knowledge in the classification
process. We show on a diverse set of tasks that the use of appropriate sets of unlabeled background knowledge often decreases
error rates, particularly if the number of examples or the size of the strings in the training set is small. This is especially
useful when labeling text is a labor-intensive job and when there is a large amount of information available about a particular
problem on the World Wide Web.
In an effort to provide high-quality preschool education, policymakers are increasingly requiring public preschool teachers to have at least a Bachelor's degree, preferably in early childhood education. Seven major studies of early care and education were used to predict classroom quality and children's academic outcomes from the educational attainment and major of teachers of 4-year-olds. The findings indicate largely null or contradictory associations, indicating that policies focused solely on increasing teachers' education will not suffice for improving classroom quality or maximizing children's academic gains. Instead, raising the effectiveness of early childhood education likely will require a broad range of professional development activities and supports targeted toward teachers' interactions with children. 相似文献
Although research has clearly established that low family income has negative impacts on children's cognitive skills and social-emotional competence, less often is a family's experience of material hardship considered. Using the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-1999 (N=21,255), this study examined dual components of family income and material hardship along with parent mediators of stress, positive parenting, and investment as predictors of 6-year-old children's cognitive skills and social-emotional competence. Support was found for a model that identified unique parent-mediated paths from income to cognitive skills and from income and material hardship to social-emotional competence. The findings have implications for future study of family income and child development and for identification of promising targets for policy intervention. 相似文献
Tomasello, Carpenter, and Liszkowski (2007) present a comprehensive review of the infant pointing literature. They conclude that infant pointing demonstrates communicative intent from its onset, at about 1 year of age. In this commentary, it is noted that for infants to understand communicative intent, they must have a concept of self and others as intentional agents. Evidence is reviewed to argue that this is not possible until 18-24 months of age. A leaner explanation of how infants might initially succeed in pointing tasks without understanding communicative intent is considered. 相似文献
Relations between mothers' mind-mindedness (appropriate and nonattuned mind-related comments) at 8 months (N =206), and children's educational attainment at ages 7 (n =158) and 11 (n =156) were investigated in a British sample. Appropriate mind-related comments were positively correlated with reading and mathematics performance at both ages but only in the low-socioeconomic status (SES) group. Path analyses showed that in the low-SES group, appropriate mind-related comments directly predicted age-11 reading performance, with age-4 verbal ability mediating the relation between appropriate mind-related comments and age-7 reading. In contrast, maternal sensitivity and infant–mother attachment security did not predict children's educational attainment. These findings are discussed in terms of genetic and environmental contributions to reading and mathematics performance. 相似文献
Engaging students in a challenging (cognitively demanding) task and launching a mathematics lesson with a task before instruction are two characteristics of a reform-oriented approach to mathematics instruction often considered together. The authors systematically contrasted teaching with challenging tasks using a task-first lesson structure with that of a discussion-first lesson structure to three composite classes of first- and second-grade students (n = 73). Subsequent assessments of mathematical performance revealed that the discussion-first lesson structure was somewhat more efficacious in improving fluency performance but both structures similarly improved problem-solving performance. The findings suggest there is more than one way of incorporating challenging tasks into mathematics lessons to produce sizeable learning gains. 相似文献
This mixed-methods study examines engaging teaching at one racially and ethnically diverse public school using the self-system process model of student engagement. As theorized, multilevel analyses of student survey data (N?=?580) reveal that student perceptions of structure, autonomy support, and involvement differentiate highly, moderately, and weakly engaging teachers. Classroom observations (N?=?12) and student interviews (N?=?17) suggest that the behavior of autonomy supportive and involved teachers is friendly, helpful, and emphasizes student agency. Although few racial or ethnic differences are observed, autonomy supportive and involved teacher behavior appears particularly critical to the behavioral engagement of Black and Latinx students. Helpfulness may also moderate stereotype threat. Implications for researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers are discussed.
