This paper reports a study designed to explore prospective teachers' learning to teach mathematics in the complex context of a university-based curriculum and instruction course. The course, taught with a focus on inquiry, used prospective teachers' weekly interactions with students as springboards for investigations of mathematics, teaching, and learning. A framework of questioning, listening, and responding is used to analyze prospective teachers' understandings and the tensions they experienced. The difficulties and tensions prospective teachers face in turn pose challenges and tensions for teacher educators. ABSTRACT

Caring for patients with dementia is complex and demanding. Since family physicians (FPs) provide much of this care, we examined their practices, learning needs, and barriers to care concerning Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We surveyed 392 (approximately 50%) Nova Scotia FPs and conducted focus groups and interviews with: FPs; staff of long-term care facilities; health professionals in home care; patients and their caregivers; FPs with advanced geriatric training; geriatricians; and psychiatrists. Results suggest that many FPs do not perform assessment and management practices as frequently as they ideally should. However, systemic factors, not only inadequate knowledge, affect care.  相似文献

Horse riding predisposes to degenerative spinal injury to both rider and horse. This study evaluated the dynamic pressure exerted on horse and horse rider. The main comparison investigated was how the flocking (cushioning) material of a saddle affected the pressure exerted on both. Six horse riders and one horse were used to conduct this study. The Pliance® horse saddle and seat pressure testing systems, designed by NovelGmBH, were used for this study. Pressure recordings were carried out from a saddle fitted with wool then again following its conversion to air flocking. Both flocking materials were tested during a variety of different gait settings using two pressure mats to record the pressures firstly being exerted onto the horse and secondly onto the rider. This study was the first carried out to examine the pressure exerted on horse and rider. Results found that both the mean peak pressure (MPP) and mean pressure–time integral (PTI) exerted on the rider increased by as much as 21.9 and 22 %, respectively, following conversion to air flocking. In contrast, the air flocking saddle exerted a lower MPP and PTI on the horse by as much as 25.3 and 26.6 %, respectively. This study has shown that air flocking reduces the pressure exerted on the horse; however, it has also indicated that it increased the pressures exerted on the rider. As a result of our study, further research needs to be conducted to determine the most appropriate material to flock a saddle with.  相似文献

Several new tools to obtain three-dimensional information from unorganized image sets are now available for the public use. The main advantage of this software, which is based on dense stereo matching, is the possibility to generate 3D content without the need of high-cost hardware (e.g. 3D scanning devices). Nevertheless, their use in real-world application domains (like cultural heritage) is still not very diffused, due to the non-straightforward usability of the raw data produced. In this paper, we investigate the use of automatic dense stereo reconstruction tools for the monitoring of an excavation site. A methodology for the effective acquisition and processing of data is presented. In addition, the results of the data assessment demonstrate the repeatability of the data acquisition process, which is a key factor when qualitative analysis is performed. The use of three-dimensional data is integrated in an open source mesh processing tool, thus showing that a spatio-temporal analysis can be performed in a very intuitive way using off-the-shelf or free/open digital tools. Moreover, the use of peculiar rendering and the creation of snapshots from arbitrary points of view increase the amount of documentation data, and suggest a perfect integration of data produced with dense stereo matching in the future standard documentation for excavation monitoring.  相似文献

En el actual plan de estudios son los contenidos gramaticales el núcleo vertebrador de los programas de Lengua desde el Ciclo Medio de EGB a COU. El empleo de un metalenguaje que no está al alcance de los alumnos y su monótona repetición año tras año sin apenas variaciones desestimula claramente el aprendizaje. Hay otras fórmulas, más aptas para cada etapa o ciclo, que se exponen en este artículo: la globalización en la Educación Primaria; la organización en torno a ejes temáticos en el ciclo 12–14 y en torno a la tipología del texto o las formas de expresión y los géneros literarios en el ciclo 14–16. Además de dar más variedad a la asignatura de Lengua a lo largo de toda la etapa escolar, el uso de estos ejes permitiría adaptar la enseñanza de la Lengua al nivel de madurez de los alumnos en cada uno de los ciclos  相似文献

This paper investigates how the organization or structure of information and resources in shared workspaces influences team sharing and design learning. Two groupware products, BSCW and TikiWiki, were configured so that teams could structure and share resources. In BSCW the resources were structured hierarchically using folders and subfolders whereas in TikiWiki resources were structured using interlinked wiki pages (like web pages). The results showed that the groupware technology used, the collaborative task set and opportunities to reflect all influenced the way teams structured resources and that well‐structured resources facilitated team collaboration and design learning. The discussion focuses on the need to help students develop information literacy skills and on why asking students to structure resources might help develop their design expertise.  相似文献

In cycling time trials, competitors aim to ride a course in the fastest possible time and the implementation of a pacing strategy is therefore essential. In this study, a differential equation model of a cyclist incorporating continuous changes in velocity is formulated and applied to a selection of theoretical courses and athletes. The model is augmented with a constraint corresponding to a mean work rate and various pacing strategies are considered. The inclusion of continuous accelerations experienced by the cyclist forms an essential component in a model for courses comprising many changes of gradient, and a steady-state approximation, which has previously been used to assess pacing strategies, is not suitable. In addition to formulating a result on the mathematically optimal solution of the model equations subject to the mean power constraint, it is also shown that substantial time savings can be realized by cyclists increasing their work rates on uphill sections and suitably reducing their work rates elsewhere. However, the amount of time saved is highly course- and athlete-dependent with the greatest gains arising on courses with the longest continuous ascents by cyclists of greatest mass.  相似文献
