Reducing violence-related injuries and deaths among youth requires an integrated community-based approach, involving policy, education, legal and regulatory, and environmental modification strategies. Developing violence-prevention programs demands an understanding of the problem, knowledge of existing programs and their effectiveness, technical expert assistance, and human and material resources. This annotated bibliography of selected publications and resources relates to violence and violence prevention. The purpose of the bibliography is to provide a first point-of-entry for using the literature and for identifying and locating additional resources. The publications include a collection of research reports, conference proceedings and their background papers, and articles exploring issues and reviewing prevention strategies and resources. We evaluated community general education (CGE; n = 178), community special education (CSE; n = 30) and hospital-referred (HR, n = 145) children (ages 7-6 to 11-11) prospectively over a 2-year period. During this period, 17 CGE children were referred for evaluation (community referred; CR). Prior to referral, CR children performed more poorly than community-nonreferred (CNR) children on cognitive ability, academic achievement, attention problems, and information processing. CR group performance was equivalent to that of CSE and HR groups, but HR children showed poorer academic achievement. Referred children performed more poorly on all measures than nonreferred, whether they met formal diagnostic criteria for a learning disorder or not. Learning disorders may be better conceptualized as a context-dependent problem of functional adaptation than as a disability analogous to physical disabilities, raising questions about the validity of using psychometric test scores as the criterion for identification. 相似文献

This paper uses coefficient estimates from a model of retirement decision-making for faculty members in higher education institutions to simulate the impact of financial incentives for early retirement. The results suggest that plans can be designed to induce relatively large numbers of faculty members to retire prior to the mandatory retirement age. However, the costs of hiring replacements plus pension subsidies can be substantial, especially if the subsidies are directed toward faculty members with relatively low salaries. Hence, institutions wishing to provide open positions to hire new faculty may prefer different incentive plans than those whose goals do not require filling each position with a new faculty member. 相似文献

This essay identifies the generic appeals of Neo‐Liberal rhetoric by locating them within the twentieth‐century Liberal tradition. Neo‐Liberal rhetoric is found to share with Liberal rhetoric a utilitarian perspective and a tendency to rationalize corporate business power.
