Many university faculties of education across Australia employ a model of internship for final semester pre-service teacher
education students to help them make a smooth transition into the teaching profession. While a growing body of research has
explored pre-service teachers’ experiences of their practicum, including the internship, which is the final professional experience
within a course of study, very little work has considered micropolitics as a lens through which to interpret interns’ relationships
with their school supervisors/mentors. This paper uses a micropolitical framework to interpret reflective reports written
by 145 Bachelor of Education (primary) interns who recorded their perceptions of their professional learning experience within
the context of a relationship with their school-based mentors. Several key themes are identified that highlight interns’ reports
of a range of micropolitical strategies at play. The paper concludes by raising a number of implications for universities

The history of the Salzburg Seminar is evoked, particularly its tradition of accommodating scholars from diverse backgrounds and of enabling them to interact fruitfully together. Next, the perceived disruptiveness of globalization is cited but with the suggestion that the universalism implied in it dovetails nicely with the traditional universalism of the university. In fact, the university is situated to contribute to the humanization of globalization while profiting greatly from its many positive aspects, particularly the major role to be played by the information technologies. The Motivation for Educational Attainment (MEA) questionnaire, developed to assess facets related to early adolescents’ motivation to complete high school, has a bifactor structure with a large general factor and three smaller orthogonal specific factors (teacher expectations, peer aspirations, value of education). This prospective validity study investigated the utility of each factor in predicting high school dropout or completion of a general education development (GED) certificate versus completion of a high school degree. Participants were 474 (55.1% male) ethnically diverse students who were originally recruited into a larger longitudinal study in Grade 1 on the basis of academic risk. Fourteen years later, 373 had obtained a high school diploma, 15 had obtained a GED, and 86 had dropped out of high school. During their first year of Grade 9, participants were administered the MEA. Using multinomial logistic regression with high school graduation as the reference outcome and controlling for Grade 9 letter grades, reading and math test scores, gender, and ethnic/racial group status, scores on the latent general factor and the latent peer aspirations factor predicted high school dropout versus high school graduation status. Neither the general factor nor any of the three specific factors predicted GED completion versus high school graduation. Two studies (one longitudinal) were designed to extend Butler's model of teachers' goal orientations for teaching. In Study 1, results from 281 teachers in Germany confirmed the predicted four-factor model comprising mastery, ability-approach, ability-avoidance, and work-avoidance goal orientations. As expected, mastery orientation and work avoidance emerged as positive and negative predictors, respectively, of adaptive patterns of instruction (mastery-oriented practices and cognitive stimulation) and high interest in teaching and low burnout; associations for both ability orientations were less consistent. In Study 2, 69 Israeli teachers completed the measures of instructional practices, interest in teaching and burnout several months after reporting their goal orientations. Results were very similar to those of Study 1. The two studies confirm that research on teachers' goal orientation is promising and has implications for understanding how teacher motivation might influence both teachers and their students. 相似文献
