During the past 20 years, primarily Latinos and Asians have immigranted to these shores and settled in urban areas. Media sources assert that this influx created particularly problematic relations between blacks and Asian Americans. Using Frame theory and textual analysis, we explored the images newsmagazines produced of this relationship. We found that one frame predominated: the nature of group relations had to do with each group's “essential”; qualities. Within this frame there also appeared four media packages: 1) the nature of the urban space, 2) the role of culture in the quality of relationships, 3) the essential qualities of urban residents and 4) the preeminence of class over race. Analysis of black‐Asian American relationships, while not strictly hegemonic, rarely deviated from accepted critiques. The nature of the coverage constrained understanding to personal shortcomings, while poverty and racial strife were rarely associated with historical and structural factors. 相似文献

This article examines the construct validity of the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) in Hong Kong and investigates the
similarities and differences in the process of learning among students in different disciplinary studies. It is based on a
survey of 1,563 undergraduate students in two disciplines, humanities and sciences, and of principally Chinese ethnicity.
Findings from exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses support the scale structure of the four subscales of a modified
version of the CEQ (good teaching, clear goals and standards, appropriate work, and appropriate assessment) in a non-Western
context and could provide a basis for cross cultural research and international benchmarking. While there was variation across
subgroups, there was a genuine pattern of relationships between the perceptions of learning environment and learning strategies
shown by structural modeling. This information could be used to inform the design of discipline-specific programs in the new

The multilingual roots of Switzerland and especially the bilingual roots of the city and canton of Freiburg are described. So also are the history and structure of the bilingual University of Freiburg which has the particularity of being aimed at providing all its students with a bilingual academic background. The development of bilingual studies and degrees is briefly discussed along with the opportunities available. On the one hand, there are clearly defined and quantified diplomas; on the other hand, the choice of attending several courses in the second language, but of taking examinations in the primary language. Between the two extremes — the definition of bilingual diplomas on the one hand and several special courses on the other — there is a wide range of ways to achieve academic bilingualism.
