Soccer in Australia underwent a series of changes following a Federal Government inquiry into its future. A report into the Structure, Governance and Management of Soccer in Australia (2003) recommended a process of structural change, aimed at repositioning and re-branding soccer as association football. The restructure yielded the replacement of the National Soccer League with the A-League, five new Australian teams and a concerted attempt to separate soccer from its ethnic ties in the antipodes. This paper examines member identification in relation to a specific A-League club’s members. Using the Sports Spectator Identity Scale (Wann & Branscombe, 1993) to measure sport fan identity in a new team context, a survey of club members of Sydney FC (n = 510), was undertaken. Survey findings indicated that members of Sydney FC reported relatively strong team identification in the first year of the new competition, with some nuanced differences based on age and income. The SSIS demonstrated a good level of fit in relation to a new sports team, although it is evident that rivalries and identification with a new team need time to develop fully. 相似文献

There is an increasing rhetoric from politicians for universities to become more involved in policy analysis and policy research. In this article, we reflect on our experiences of the analysis we conducted into the legislation to introduce biometric identity cards in the United Kingdom. We highlight how our work had direct consequences for the ongoing policy deliberation around this controversial piece of legislation. In particular, we highlight our role in the debate surrounding the government's figures for identity fraud and the concerns about the likely cost of the scheme to the government and taxpayer. This study is concerned with the nature of organizational goals, and ways of measuring goal achievement. It is intended to provide administrators with some new ways of conceptualizing the evalution of effectiveness in educational systems. The paper points out the desirability of involving professionals in the setting of goals, proposes a three-tier system of goals for educational systems, and suggests some of the reasons for the frequent failure to achieve organizational goals. Additionally, a comprehensive approach to the goals of organizations, adapted from Gross's matrix of purposes, is proposed, on the grounds that only such an inclusive approach to organizational goals is entirely satisfactory. Finally, the paper takes issue with the notion that freedom for organization members equals absence of organizational controls. The sense of power for organization members increases with participation in control, as does effectiveness. Thus, particularly for organizations with large numbers of professionals as members, it is not absence of control but rather participation in control that is the vital factor in both freedom and effectiveness. The final conclusion of the paper is that attempts to improve the effectiveness of educational systems or institutions must be in the future more inclusive, and that the matrix of purposes approach is one possible line of development.
Résumé Cette étude porte sur la nature des objectifs des plans d'organisation et des méthodes servant à mesurer le degré de réussite dans la poursuite de ces objectifs. L'auteur se propose de fournir aux administrateurs un certain nombre de nouveaux critères pour concevoir l'évaluation de l'efficacité des systèmes éducatifs. Soulignant l'opportunité de confier à des professionnels l'établissement des objectifs, cette étude propose un système à trois paliers et tente d'expliquer les échecs fréquents auxquels aboutissent les objectifs des plans d'organisation. Par ailleurs, en ce qui concerne les objectifs des organisations, elle propose une attitude globale adaptée de l'étude de Gross intitulée matrix of purposes (matrice des objectifs), étant donné qu'une telle attitude est la seule qui soit satisfaisante à tous points de vue. Enfin l'auteur dénonce la notion selon laquelle la liberté accordée aux membres des organisations équivaut à une absence de contrôle sur ces dernières. En participant au contrôle de leurs organisations, les membres prennent en effet de plus en plus conscience de leur pouvoir et l'efficacité s'en trouve accrue. C'est ainsi que lorsqu'il s'agit, en particulier, d'organisations comptant de nombreux membres des professions libérales, ce n'est pas l'absence de contrôle mais plutôt la participation au contrôle qui représente le facteur capital à la fois de la liberté et de l'efficacité. En conclusion finale, cette étude affirme qu'à l'avenir, les tentatives d'amélioration des systèmes éducatifs ou des institutions devront avoir un caractère plus global et que la matrice des objectifs représente l'une des méthodes possibles à adopter dans ce domaine.相似文献

The article reviews the social-educational theorization of the early Soviet psychologist L. S. Vygotsky (1896–1934) in the light of the impact of communicative globalization in educational practice. Vygotsky proposed four “genetic domains” for investigating higher cognitive processes: the phylogenetic (humans undergoing natural evolution), the cultural-historical (social activity of humans), the ontogenetic (individual lifespan), and the microgenetic (immediate events). Vygotskian sociocultural theory is widely used in educational research, especially Vygotsky’s notion of mediated development via tools and signs. Since Vygotsky, communicative globalization has transformed educational potentials. Nevertheless, provided adjustments are made to Vygotsky’s genetic method to incorporate time-space compression, the mutual presence of the genetic domains, and the glonacal heuristic, Vygotskian theory continues to be useful in socially-situated investigations of educational development and transformation, and opens another way into the global, for example investigation of the role of global mediation in learning. 相似文献

The mistakes made when attempting tasks often prove to be some of the most invaluable learning experiences. Despite this, outcome and results driven assessment formats largely penalise student performance errors or reward students who succeed by chance. The consequences of this paradigm are visible effects on student relationships with assessment. The student–tutor consensus approach to assessment was introduced to capture student learning achieved ‘from’ assessment to complement the measurement of performance outcomes. This approach parallels student and tutor judgement in a grade negotiation, affording the student an opportunity to share with their assessor what they have learned from the assessment activity. This student self-awareness was then considered alongside the conventional outcome-based score awarded by the tutor to generate a final grade for the assessed activity. Our study evaluated the perceptions of 90 undergraduate students enrolled in the bachelor of paramedic studies, who participated in this novel assessment approach as part of a final-year capstone topic. The results comprehensively indicated value for all aspects of the assessment approach, as well as a recognition that the skills will be useful in their future professional roles. 相似文献

Learning through South–South development: Cuban-African partnerships in sport and physical education
Since the 1990s, Cuba has offered scholarships to students from low-resource countries to attend the Escuela Internacional de Educación Física y Deporte (EIEFD) for a six-year degree in sport, physical education, and coaching. Drawing on the experiences of EIEFD graduates from four Southern African countries (Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, and Lesotho) the authors discuss the meanings that this South–South cooperation through education holds for international students and for the self-sufficiency of sport and physical-education systems within partner countries. The authors also show that upon returning home, many EIEFD graduates are left to negotiate insular job markets and inconsistent domestic commitments to public sport and physical education. The implications for South–South development through international education, and the place of sport and physical education therein, are discussed. 相似文献
