Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) generally has a favorable outcome. Thyroid disease, treatments, stress, and comorbidity
can compromise health-related quality of life (QoL) and indirectly weigh upon the outcome. From 2004 to 2008, we evaluated
QoL longitudinally in 128 DTC subjects. During scheduled examinations, subjects were asked to undergo a semi-structured psychiatric
interview and five rated inventories. The same examination was conducted in 219 subjects after surgery for benign thyroid
pathology. Low scores represent a better QoL. DTC and control subjects were similar in terms of age, male/female ratio, concomitant
psychopharmacological treatments, and frequency of psychiatric diseases. In DTC subjects, Billewicz scale (BS) scores showed
an increasing trend over time, especially among females. The ad hoc thyroid questionnaire (TQ) scores were similar in both
groups and did not change over time, but at the end of the study ad hoc TQ and BS were significantly related. Ad hoc TQ scores
were also related to age on entry to the study. In both male and female DTC subjects, Hamilton’s tests for anxiety (HAM-A),
but not for depression (HAM-D), showed an improving trend. At the end of the study, HAM-A and HAM-D scores were comparable
to those of the control group. HAM-A and HAM-D were both positively correlated with the stage of cancer and the time between
diagnosis and treatment. Only HAM-D correlated with age on entry to the study. Kellner symptom questionnaire (KSQ) item scores
were higher in DTC subjects than in controls. The change over time in the items including anxiety, somatization, depression,
and hostility was significant. Somatization and hostility were more significantly reduced in DTC females than in DTC males.
Hostility scores were significantly lower in DTC subjects than in controls at the end of the study. Somatization and depression
were significantly related to staging on diagnosis and age on entry to the study. Our study confirms a wide variation of illness
perception in DTC subjects, which is generally unrelated to the favorable clinical follow-up of the disease. Psychological
evaluation during long-term follow-up improved QoL scores, which reached the same levels noted in subjects with a history
of thyroid surgery for benign thyroid pathology. Our data indicate that special attention should be paid to QoL in older DTC
subjects and those with more severe staging on diagnosis. 相似文献

This article discusses how the Library and Office of Institutional Research at a public college measured the relationship of an online information literacy module in the learning management system with student success metrics in a first-year experience course. Specifically, the authors examine the relationships of an online instruction module, online module completion status, library use sessions, and student success metrics, such as semester grade point average (GPA), one-year retention, and academic standing. The results suggest that students who participated in the online information literacy module had better student outcomes than those that did not participate in the module. Research assignment grade and library use sessions are found as significant predictors of student semester GPA and one-year retention, controlling for high school GPA, student characteristics, and utilization of student support services. A number of studies have reported that most children with autism fail theory of mind tasks. It is unclear why certain children with autism pass such tests and what might be different about these subjects. In the present study, the role of age and verbal ability in theory of mind task performance was explored. Data were pooled from 70 autistic, 34 mentally handicapped, and 70 normal young subjects, previously tested for a number of different studies. The analysis suggested that children with autism required far higher verbal mental age to pass false belief tasks than did other subjects. While normally developing children had a 50% probability of passing both tasks at the verbal mental age of 4 years, autistic subjects took more than twice as long to reach this probability of success (at the advanced verbal mental age of 9-2). Possible causal relations between verbal ability and the ability to represent mental states are discussed. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe dominant results-driven/performance-oriented culture and the pressures of performativity in education have meant that the promotion of creativity has been narrow in scope and the translation into practice less apparent than the rhetoric would suggest. Creativity can survive even in times of standardisation, but it is more likely to be confined to interstitial zones. Interstitial zones are in-between social spaces outside the formal teaching zones in which creativity may give voice to those students whose voice is not always heard in the formal teaching context.Often, creativity is equated exclusively to substantial creative outputs and, as a result, teachers who are not sensitised to creativity in a broader sense may underestimate their own creative ability and the positive impact this might have on the relationship with their students. A shift in teacher education that results in a more meaningful appreciation of both the nature of creativity and its benefits is therefore required. A developmental approach which starts with teacher cultivation of creative sensibility is essential to achieve greater infusion of creativity. The paper posits that teachers who resist rigid social structures and engage in critical pedagogy are also more likely to be receptive to creativity and its the pastoral potential in education. 相似文献

We conducted a survey of radio station program directors and general managers to explore the perception and role of innovation within radio programming and the key factors that influence this perception. In the study, we found that, in general, programmers and general managers perceive little innovation in programming except at their own stations. Results also indicate perceptions that more risk taking is needed in radio programming, that risk taking is essential for the financial health of a station, that increased artist diversity and an innovative music rotation influence the perception of innovation at the station level, and that too many commercials are being placed within an average hour of programming. 相似文献

This study examines how good strategies and praxis interplay with positive affect and self-efficacy to determine a teacher's job satisfaction, in the hypothesis that teaching effectively does not in itself guarantee satisfaction: positive affect and self-efficacy beliefs are needed. Self-assessment scales, designed to assess the use of efficient teaching strategies and praxes, self-efficacy in teaching, positive affect and job satisfaction, were completed by 399 teachers. Structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis revealed the mediating role of both positive affect and self-efficacy beliefs in the relationship between teaching strategies/praxes and job satisfaction. 相似文献

A test of advanced theory of mind (ToM), first introduced by F. Happé (1994) , was adapted for children (mental, human, animal, and nature stories plus unlinked sentences). These materials were closely matched for difficulty and were presented to forty-five 7- to 12-year-olds with autism and 27 control children. Children with autism who showed ToM impairment on independent tests performed significantly more poorly than controls solely on the mental, human, and animal stories with greatest impairment on the former and least on the latter. The goal of this paper is to explore qualities of mathematical imagination in light of a classroom episode. It is based on
the analysis of a classroom interaction in a high school Algebra class. We examine a sequence of nine utterances enacted by
one of the students whom we call Carlene. Through these utterances Carlene illustrates, in our view, two phenomena: (1) juxtaposing
displacements, and (2) articulating necessary cases. The discussion elaborates on the significance of these phenomena and
