In this article, we focus on the use of the visual for reflection in ‘alternative’ pre‐service teacher education and, in particular, we address the question: How and what can we learn about teacher education using the visual? By way of illustration, we focus on the use of pre‐service teachers’ photographs in a public exhibition, participatory video documentary production and pre‐service teachers’ use of photographs in their professional teaching portfolios. Wireless sensing solutions that provide accurate long-term monitoring of walking and running gait characteristics in a real-world environment would be an excellent tool for sport scientist researchers and practitioners. The purpose of this study was to compare the performance of a body-worn wireless gyroscope-based gait analysis application to a marker-based motion capture system for the detection of heel-strike and toe-off and subsequent calculation of gait parameters during walking and running. The gait application consists of a set of wireless inertial sensors and an adaptive algorithm for the calculation of temporal gait parameters. Five healthy subjects were asked to walk and run on a treadmill at two different walking speeds (2 and 4?kph) and at a jogging (8?kph) and running (12?kph) speed. Data were simultaneously acquired from both systems. True error, percentage error and ICC scores indicate that the adaptive algorithm successfully calculated strides times across all speeds. However, results showed poor to moderate agreement for stance and swing times. We conclude that this gait analysis platform is valid for determining stride times in both walking and running. This is a useful application, particularly in the sporting arena, where long-term monitoring of running gait characteristics outside of the laboratory is of interest. 相似文献

Ireland has two official languages—Gaeilge (Irish) and English. Similarly, primary- and second-level education can be mediated
through the medium of Gaeilge or through the medium of English. This research is primarily focused on students (Gaeilgeoirí)
in the transition from Gaeilge-medium mathematics education to English-medium mathematics education. Language is an essential
element of learning, of thinking, of understanding and of communicating and is essential for mathematics learning. The content
of mathematics is not taught without language and educational objectives advocate the development of fluency in the mathematics
register. The theoretical framework underpinning the research design is Cummins’ (1976). Thresholds Hypothesis. This hypothesis infers that there might be a threshold level of language proficiency that bilingual
students must achieve both in order to avoid cognitive deficits and to allow the potential benefits of being bilingual to
come to the fore. The findings emerging from this study provide strong support for Cummins’ Thresholds Hypothesis at the key
transitions—primary- to second-level and second-level to third-level mathematics education—in Ireland. Some implications and
applications for mathematics teaching and learning are presented.

The incidence of extramural collaboration in academic research activities is increasing as a result of various factors. These
factors include policy measures aimed at fostering partnership and networking among the various components of the research
system, policies which are in turn justified by the idea that knowledge sharing could increase the effectiveness of the system.
Over the last two decades, the scientific community has also stepped up activities to assess the actual impact of collaboration
intensity on the performance of research systems. This study draws on a number of empirical analyses, with the intention of
measuring the effects of extramural collaboration on research performance and, indirectly, verifying the legitimacy of policies
that support this type of collaboration. The analysis focuses on the Italian academic research system. The aim of the work
is to assess the level of correlation, at institutional level, between scientific productivity and collaboration intensity
as a whole, both internationally and with private organizations. This will be carried out using a bibliometric type of approach,
which equates collaboration with the co-authorship of scientific publications.

Extracurricular groups can promote healthy development, yet the literature has given limited attention to indirect associations between extracurricular involvement and mental health or to sexual and gender minority youth. Among 580 youth (Mage = 15.59, range = 10–20 years) and adult advisors in 38 Gender-Sexuality Alliances (GSAs), multilevel structural equation models showed that greater engagement in GSAs over the school year predicted increased perceived peer validation, self-efficacy to promote social justice, and hope (baseline adjusted). Through increased hope, greater engagement indirectly predicted reduced depressive and anxiety symptoms at the year’s end (baseline adjusted). GSAs whose members had more mental health discussions and more meetings reported reduced mental health concerns. Findings suggest how groups addressing issues of equity and justice improve members’ health. 相似文献
