The St. Albans Primary Care Information Service (STAPCIS) is a database of locally focused information designed to be of use for GPs and the Primary Care team as a whole in a particular area. It is currently being used by practices in the St. Albans, Dacorum and Watford & Three Rivers Primary Care Groups. STAPCIS developed from a project initiated in late 1997 to pilot the use of the WAX software to improve access to directory‐type and full‐text material needed for easy access by primary care staff and traditionally difficult to manage. The database is updated centrally by the STAPCIS Librarian who distributes the new editions to the practices. The WAX software itself was developed by the Cambridge Centre for Clinical Informatics. * * The Cambridge Centre for Clinical Informatics no longer deal with the software, a new company (WaX Info Ltd.) is now marketing the new version of WaX. STAPCIS contains locally and nationally produced relevant information from a variety of sources, including full‐text clinical guidelines and directories of Trusts. Decisions on new content are made by a Steering Group and the GPs and Primary Care teams are particularly encouraged to make suggestions regarding new content. The service is financially supported by the three primary care groups. The STAPCIS Librarian is project‐managed by the Library & Information Development Unit (North Thames < http://www.nthames‐health.tpmde.ac.uk/rliu/ntrliu.htm >), which also provides additional equipment and expertise. A new software company, WaX Info Ltd (< http://www.waxinfo.com/ >), will soon be releasing a new version of the software, WaX. WaX consists of a WaX client and WaX ActiveLibrary server software. With the new version, the ‘books’ of information will still be stored on the user’s PC, retaining the speed of access, but the server will enable users to ‘borrow’ books from remote locations and will provide automatic updates of all books. The new software will improve the management and distribution processes of STAPCIS once all of the practices have Internet connectivity.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to examine the peak sagittal plane joint angles and joint moments of the lower extremity during the deep squat (DS) movement of the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) to assess differences between the classifications (1,2,3). Twenty-eight participants volunteered for the study and were screened to assess their FMS score on the DS task. All participants underwent a quantitative movement analysis performing the FMS DS movement at a self-selected speed. The participants in Group 3 exhibited greater dorsiflexion excursion compared to those in Group 1. Participants in Group 3 had greater peak knee flexion and knee flexion excursion than those in Group 2 who exhibited more than the participants in Group 1. Group 3 also exhibited a greater peak knee extension moment compared to Group 1. At the hip, Groups 3 and 2 exhibited greater peak hip flexion, hip flexion excursion and peak hip extension moment compared to Group 1. Thus, it appears that individuals who score differently on the deep squat as determined by the FMS exhibit differences in mechanics that may be beneficial in assessing strategies for interventions. Future research should assess how fundamental changes in mobility and stability independently affect DS performance.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study examined the relationships between the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test level 1 (Yo-Yo IR1) and resting heart rate variability (HRV) and submaximal 5?-5? test derived measures in novice male soccer players. Methods: Forty players (11.54 ± 0.58 years) from a soccer academy participated in this study, performing physical tests on two different days, separated by 48 h, as follows: (day 1) resting HRV and Yo-Yo IR1 test, and (day 2) anthropometric assessments (for peak height velocity assessment [PHV]) and the 5?-5? test. The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to determine the correlations between Yo-Yo IR1 performance and the remaining variables. A partial correlation analysis was further performed using age, stature, body mass, distance to PHV, and age at PHV as “confounders.” Results: The highest correlation score was observed between Yo-Yo IR1 performance and resting HRV, when the absolute age was used as confounder (r = 0.72; p < .05). Conclusions: We observed that a practical measure of parasympathetic activity at rest is largely associated with performance obtained during a traditional intermittent endurance performance test.  相似文献

Young children can learn about their own feelings and moods through listening to music, by singing songs, and by expressively moving to music. Music and song provide an enjoyable way to introduce young children to the songs and tales of other cultures as well as familiarizing children with words in other languages. A listing of folk songs suitable for early childhood classrooms is provided to support teachers' use of music with children's singing and moving.  相似文献

This study examined relationships among perfectionism, acculturation, and stress in 76 Asian international students. Results showed that perfectionism and acculturation predicted stress, together accounting for 50% of the variance in stress. Furthermore, acculturation explained students' experience of stress above and beyond perfectionism, and 1 specific acculturation variable examined, perceived prejudice, revealed the strongest relationship with stress. Implications for providing counseling services to international students and for future research are described.  相似文献

Operation ARA (Acquiring Research Acumen) is a computerized learning game that teaches critical thinking and scientific reasoning. It is a valuable learning tool that utilizes principles from the science of learning and serious computer games. Students learn the skills of scientific reasoning by engaging in interactive dialogs with avatars. They are tutored by avatars with tutoring sessions that vary depending on how well students have responded to questions about the material they are learning. Students also play a jeopardy-like game against a feisty avatar to identify flaws in research and then generate their own questions to determine the quality of different types of research. The research examples are taken from psychology, biology, and chemistry to help students transfer the thinking skills across domains of knowledge.
