The purpose of this article is to describe the crisis that exists in kindergarten today related to maintaining developmentally
and culturally appropriate practice while at the same time addressing the academic standards set forth by most states. In
Part I, three questions are posed, the answers to which seek to elucidate possible solutions to this dilemma. The questions
center on issues related to developmentally appropriate practice, intentional teaching, and assessment. Research and expert
opinion associated to each of these areas are discussed, and examples of classroom practice are used to illustrate the effective

Abstract This paper tells a story about miscegenation between US military personnel and Okinawan women from 1945–1952, which includes sexual violence, the establishment of ‘entertainment districts,’ and the emergence of international marriage. Whereas this history has been mobilized by leftists as a truth‐weapon in the struggle for political sovereignty from the US military, this paper takes an explicitly genealogical approach. Drawing on Foucault's work on biopower, this paper shows how Okinawans were transformed into ‘petitioning subject’ – subjects that negotiated the sexual exploitation of their bodies in tandem with the radically changing relationship between their bodies and the territory. 相似文献

Note taking is the core activity for students in a classroom. There has been a large amount of research conducted, both from
industry and from academia, into facilitating the note-taking process. There is evidence that shows that note taking can be
beneficial for the students’ educational growth. There are also many available systems for taking notes electronically (e.g.
Tablet PCs, PDAs). However, what has not been given as much attention is how these electronic devices affect (or support)
the note taking task. In this paper, we study university students’ current note taking behavior and the changes caused by
the use of electronic systems for this activity. The goal of our work is to identify issues that should be considered when
evaluating electronic note taking systems and to formulate requirements for future electronic note-taking systems. Our findings
show that while the technological support for writing with pens on electronic surfaces is quite advanced, the task of note
taking in the classroom is not well supported. We identify the limitations of typical note taking systems and discuss the
implications for the design of future note taking systems. Our work consisted of three parts: a survey of current note-taking
practices, an observational study in a classroom environment, and a semester long case study of students using electronic
note-taking devices. All of these activities took place at a large 4-year university. We found that the people reacted to
note-taking devices very differently and that their current practices were not always well supported. The users all wanted
to input information as fast as possible, in the manner they wanted but they were not always able to achieve that. Hardware
limitations (i.e. screen size, responsiveness) added to this issue. We also found that the features that are well supported
in an electronic medium (i.e. modification, reorganizing, multiple pen colors/styles, handwriting recognition, sharing) were

Using cross-sectional data from the 2008 National Annenberg Election Survey, this study tests 2 models that explicate the relationship between politically likeminded media use and political polarization and participation. The knowledge model suggests that the effects of exposure to likeminded media on individuals’ attitudinal polarization and political participation are mediated by knowledge of candidate issue stances. The belief model proposes that likeminded media use indirectly influences political polarization and participation via political beliefs. The results provide evidence that individuals’ beliefs mediate the influence of likeminded media consumption on attitudinal polarization and participation, but there was no support for the knowledge model. These findings indicate that individuals who consume politically likeminded news tend to develop polarized attitudes and are motivated to participate in political activities by forming biased beliefs associated with candidates rather than by gaining factual issue knowledge. 相似文献

This study identified coparenting patterns using data collected across 2007–2010 from low-income couples (N = 2915; 26.90% non-Hispanic White; 9.41% non-Hispanic Black; 34.24% Hispanic, 29.27% other or mixed race) with young children (M = 3.65 years; SD = 1.31 years; 48% girls) and examined relations with children's social–emotional adjustment. Latent profile analysis revealed four coparenting patterns: mutual high-quality (43.4%), moderate-quality, mothers less positive (31.8%), moderate-quality, fathers less positive (15.9%), and low-quality, mothers less positive (8.9%). When parents' perspectives on coparenting were positive and congruent, children fared best. Children also fared well when coparenting quality was moderate, and mothers were less positive than fathers. When coparenting quality was moderate and fathers were less positive than mothers, children showed the poorest adjustment. 相似文献

Efficient management of toxicity information as an enterprise asset is increasingly important for the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries. Many organisations focus on better information organisation and reuse, in an attempt to reduce the costs of testing and manufacturing in the product development phase. Toxicity information is extracted not only from toxicity data but also from predictive models. Accurate and appropriately shared models can bring a number of benefits if we are able to make effective use of existing expertise. Although usage of existing models may provide high-impact insights into the relationships between chemical attributes and specific toxicological effects, they can also be a source of risk for incorrect decisions. Thus, there is a need to provide a framework for efficient model management. To address this gap, this paper introduces a concept of model governance, that is based upon data governance principles. We extend the data governance processes by adding procedures that allow the evaluation of model use and governance for enterprise purposes. The core aspect of model governance is model representation. We propose six rules that form the basis of a model representation schema, called Minimum Information About a QSAR Model Representation (MIAQMR). As a proof-of-concept of our model governance framework we develop a web application called Model and Data Farm (MADFARM), in which models are described by the MIAQMR-ML markup language. 相似文献

This study investigated the effectiveness of a guided inquiry integrated with technology, in terms of female middle-school
students’ attitudes toward science/scientists and content knowledge regarding selective science concepts (e.g., Greenhouse
Effect, Air/Water Quality, Alternative Energy, and Human Health). Thirty-five female students who were entering eighth grade
attended an intensive, 1-week Inquiry-Based Science and Technology Enrichment Program which used a main theme, “Green Earth
Enhanced with Inquiry and Technology.” We used pre- and post-attitude surveys, pre- and post-science content knowledge tests,
and selective interviews to collect data and measure changes in students’ attitudes and content knowledge. The study results
indicated that at the post-intervention measures, participants significantly improved their attitudes toward science and science-related

ABSTRACTWhen new protocols are developed, there is a requirement to investigate test–retest reliability of measures for valid use and interpretation of data in research and practice. Therefore, the aim of this investigation was to determine the inter-day reliability of the cable put and seated rotation assessment protocols. On three occasions, nine resistance-trained men performed cable puts and cable rotations at different loads between 6 and 42 kg on a commercially available cable cross over machine. Load stack movement was recorded using a PT5A linear position transducer from which all kinematic and kinetic variables were calculated. Reliability was excellent for peak velocity and displacement based on intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and coefficient of variation (CV) across the majority of loads and movements (cable put: ICC = 0.92 to 0.99, CV = 3.1% to 8.6%; cable seated rotation: ICC = 0.76 to 0.99, CV = ?1.7% to 16.1%). However, kinetic variables demonstrated inadequate reliability across the majority of days, loads and movements (ICC = 0.70, CV >10%). It was concluded that peak velocity is a reliable kinematic measure to assess muscular capability from cable put and seated rotation protocols; however, kinetic measures are too variable to provide reliable outputs across testing occasions. 相似文献
