The Development and Evaluation of a Job Aid to Support Mobile Subscriber Radio–Telephone Terminal (MSRT)

This research examines the effectiveness of a job aid for the Mobile Subscriber Radio–Telephone Terminal (MSRT), a complicated piece of Army communications equipment. Three groups of subjects, untrained in communications, operated the MSRT. One group had a short demonstration and the job aid. One group had only the job aid. A third group had a standard Army Technical Manual and a short demonstration. No differences in error rates were found between groups. However, use of the job aid accelerated performance significantly. The demonstration enhanced this effect.
