The purpose of this study was to extend the research on adolescents’ motivation for reading by examining important group differences and the relation of motivation to standardized achievement. Adolescents (N = 406) ranging from grade 7 to grade 12 completed a self-report survey that assessed 13 different aspects of their reading motivation including multiple forms of expectancy beliefs, value, achievement goals, and social goals. Group comparisons indicated important differences between readers who had struggled and those who were more adequate readers, but relatively few differences based on gender or grade in school. Regression analysis showed that the motivational beliefs as a group, and perceived control individually, were able to predict students’ performance on a standardized measure of reading comprehension. 相似文献

A sample of 711 16 year old adolescents completed an Anglicised form of the Dommert revision of the Rokeach Dogmatism Scale, together with the Junior Eysenck Personality Inventory and Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices. They also provided information about church attendance, personal prayer and paternal occupation. The data demonstrate that higher dogmatism scores are associated with lower IQ scores, lower social class backgrounds, higher neuroticism scores, higher lie scale scores and being male. No correlation was found between dogmatism scores and personal prayer, church attendance or extroversion scores. Studies based on the methodology of Trait by Treatment Interaction (TTI) have tended to emphasize input‐output relations as they interact with individual differences. Consideration of intervening processes employed by learners has been neglected to the possible detriment of empirical and theoretical contributions. The development of taxonomies of how situations are coded and of the kinds of processes used by learners with different characteristics appears to be essential. Furthermore, assessment of individual differences must correspond to the theoretical demands of a given study. The attainment of these objectives requires renewed attention to carefully derived “theoretical”; statements of interlocking and dynamic relations among situations, traits, processes, and outcomes. 相似文献
