The cross-cultural generality of previously observed stereotype attribution processes was investigated. European and Maori New Zealanders, similar in age but differing in occupational status from previous American samples, rated stimulus persons varying along three dimensions: Ethnicity (European, Maori, Samoan); Origin (Urban-Rural); and Occupation/Education (manager, skilled tradesman, laborer). Response traits were 26 adjectives found in previous research to comprise ethnic stereotypes. Factor analysis of these 26 traits showed that 5 factors were plausible in each sample, although the factor structures in the two samples were not identical. Separate between- subjects ANOV As in each sample showed that stimulus occupation accounted for most of the systematic variance in the attribution of the trait factors. This was interpreted as evidence for possible occupational stereotyping. Methodological and theoretical issues relevant to this conclusion were discussed, including the likelihood that different processes may characterize attribution in different cultures and situations. 相似文献

This article reports a cross-national study of classroom environments in Australia and Indonesia. A modified version of the
What Is Happening In this Class? (WIHIC) questionnaire was used simultaneously in these two countries to: 1) crossvalidate
the modified WIHIC; 2) investigate differences between countries and sexes in perceptions of classroom environment; and 3)
investigate associations between students’ attitudes to science and their perceptions of classroom environment. The sample
consisted of 1,161 students (594 students from 18 classes in Indonesia and 567 students from 18 classes in Australia). Principal
components factor analysis with varimax rotation supported the validity of a revised structure for the WIHIC. Two-way MANOVA
revealed some differences between countries and between sexes in students’ perceptions of their classroom environments. Simple
correlation and multiple regression analyses revealed generally positive associations between the classroom environment and

Abstract Zoos aspire to be leaders in environmental conservation through their work in environmental education. This study examined whether a spokesperson's job title impacts credibility when conservation messages are delivered to the public. Visitors to a zoo were presented with seven environmental messages. They then selected—from a list of zoo‐related job titles—the one they deemed most credible and the one considered least credible. Statistical analysis established that three “credible” job titles were selected significantly more often, while three were generally selected as “least credible.” The authors demonstrate that some job titles have greater credibility than others among visitors, and recommend that more attention be given to this variable if attitude and behavior change are desired outcomes. With the introduction of clinical governance and the move towards evidence-based practice, there is a growing need to provide health professionals and patients, and the public, with high quality information. Developments in the health service have added weight and urgency to this need. The National electronic Library for Health (NeLH) has a key role to play in providing health professionals with a core knowledge base of accredited and evaluated information. The Pilot NeLH was launched in November and this article outlines the progress and achievements made during this time. The NeLH is based around a central website featuring core resources and links to commissioned specialist collections. Over 70 information resources, including bibliographic databases and full text publications, are accessible via the NeLH, which aims to act as a one-stop shop to support evidence-based decision-making. Much work has been undertaken on national procurement and licensing, particularly in partnership with National Health Service (NHS) libraries. Partnerships as a whole are crucial to ensure true seamless access for health professionals. Key partners include NHS libraries, NHS Direct Online and the electronic Library for Social Care. In line with the current interest in alternative and authentic assessment, this study focused on the evaluation of students'
performance on science laboratory process skills. A sample of 147 year 5 students from six schools responded to laboratory
process skills tests which assess investigating, performing and reasoning in the content areas of biology, chemistry and physics.
The data were analysed to provide information about students' overall practical performance and to identify specific preinstructional
conceptions and erros. An investigation of predictors of laboratory performance revealed significant associations between
performance and amount of homework done and students' perceptions of several aspects of the classroom environment (personalisation,
investigation and organisation). The gender differences commonly found in science achievement were absent when laboratory

This article is an exploration of the Youth Workers’ Association of Victoria (1967–1982), and highlights the tensions among youth workers and the difficulties they experienced as they attempted to move their occupation towards a profession and to establish themselves as professionals in society. In studying the Youth Workers#x2019; Association through the focus of professionalism, the article critically examines the approach to education, qualifications, membership, ethics, industrial awards, response to government and relationship with young people.
