This article presents a four-component instructional design model for the training of complex cognitive skills. In the analysis
phase, the skill is decomposed into a set of recurrent skills that remain consistent over problem situations and a set of
nonrecurrent skills that require variable performance over situations. In the design phase, two components relate to the design
of practice; they pertain to the conditions under which practice leads either to rule automation during the performance of
recurrent skills or to schema acquisition during the performance of nonrecurrent skills. The other two components relate to
the design of information presentation; they pertain to the presentation of information that supports the performance of either
recurrent or nonrecurrent skills. The basic prediction of the model is that its application leads to “reflective expertise”
and increased performance on transfer tasks. Applications of the model that support this prediction are briefly discussed
for the training of fault management in process industry, computer programming, and statistical analysis. 相似文献

Although the concept of mentoring is receiving increasing attention in the counseling field, the intersection between multiculturalism
and mentoring has not been formally addressed. This article explores mentoring relationships between faculty and students
within counselor education from a multicultural perspective. Semi-structured interviews were used to explore African American,
Asian American and Latina/o American counselor education graduate students’ perspectives on mentoring. Three similar themes
(trust/comfort/honesty; respect; and teacher/student/guide) emerged for all three racial/ethnic groups as important key elements
in the mentoring relationship, but with some distinctive culturally relevant variations in emphasis. Also, all three groups
to some degree reported that having a mentor who was culturally competent and sensitive was helpful, adding further weight
to the view that cultural issues play a role in mentoring relationships. Implications of the findings are discussed. 相似文献

Thirty aquatic diving beetles,Rhantus atncolor, of the family Dytiscidae, were subjected to 1-, 5-, 10-, 15-, 20-, and 25-min levels of oxygen deprivation. The level of deprivation was procured by submerging the Ss under water for the allotted period of time. A control group receiving no oxygen deprivation was also tested. The results clearly established oxygen deprivation as a drive state capable of increasing the general level of activity in aquatic Coleoptera as measured by swimming speed in the runway. The research on worked examples has shown thatfor novices, studying worked examples is oftena more effective and efficient way of learningthan solving conventional problems. Thistheoretical paper argues that addingprocess-oriented information to worked examplescan further enhance transfer performance,especially for complex cognitive skills withmultiple possible solution paths.Process-oriented information refers to theprincipled (``why'') and strategic (``how'')information that experts use when solvingproblems. This paper reports an investigation of the status of procedural knowledge in chemistry amongst students entering into bridging programs at two South African universities. The students answered a questionnaire which investigated their perceived reasons for repeating readings and their ideas about handling data. Students also answered a question on laboratory apparatus which was used to assess their laboratory experience. The overall responses were analysed, as well as their relationship to laboratory experience and home language. The findings show that students overall tend to repeat in order to get a recurring reading. Very few students were able to use a line of best fit for a set of graphical data. There is some relationship between their responses and previous laboratory experiences, but little fundamental difference between the responses of the two main language groups. Some implications for tertiary education in chemistry are discussed. 相似文献

This article investigates ways to improve the assessment of English learner students' English language proficiency given the current movement of creating next-generation English language proficiency assessments in the Common Core era. In particular, this article discusses the integration of scaffolding strategies, which are prevalently utilized as an instructional strategy for English learner students, into the design of technology-enhanced assessment tasks. The article includes sample tasks and student responses to illustrate the design of scaffolding assessment tasks and their potential to increase the accuracy of measuring students' English language proficiency.
