Abstract

Carole Adamsbaum died on October 4, 2019. She worked for decades as a sexuality educator at the high school and college levels, along with providing training for other educators. Carole also worked as a psychiatric nurse and for many years opened her home to teens as a foster mother. This study presents evidence that adaptation to colored light alters the apparent hue of subsequently presented stimuli in pigeons. During training, right and left keypecks were reinforced following responses to colored and nominally achromatic slides, respectively. During test sessions, subjects continued to observe and report on the two classes of slides while 6-min components alternated, such that the experimental chamber was illuminated with either a green flood lamp or a nominally white bulb. The proportion of right keypecks following achromatic slides was much higher during green components than during white components, indicating that the achromatic slides appeared more like the chromatic slides.  相似文献

The findings from this study of 100 Belfast boys, from age 4 to age 21, carried out from 1975 to 1991 relate to the long-term effects of language intervention on reading, the rates of progress of children who make a poor start and of those who make a good start, the relationship of cognitive and social variables both to the acquisition of reading skill and the use made of reading and the outcomes at age 19–21 for those found to have been good and poor readers at age 6.5. It found that the outcomes of instruction can vary substantially between individuals, suggesting that other factors must be impinging on the outcome. Degrees of social disadvantage can influence preschool development in crucial areas such as vocabulary and language development and familiarity with print. Failure at an early stage in the process can have devastating effects on attitudes and influence future progress.  相似文献

The number of people living in Canada of Caribbean heritage has increased substantially over the past forty years. This paper examines aspects of Caribbean culture and Caribbean education culture to explore if Caribbean Canadians can claim a Caribbean education philosophy. The research claims there is one. The article suggests that this philosophy should be recognized and considered in the education of Caribbean Canadian youth to prepare them for national and global citizenship. In all its analyses and observations, the paper consistently sees relevant education, especially one that takes people’s socio-cultural background into account, as important for human well-being.  相似文献

This article describes the importance that high school computer science teachers place on a teachers’ professional learning community designed around an inquiry- and equity-oriented approach for broadening participation in computing. Using grounded theory to analyze four years of teacher surveys and interviews from the Exploring Computer Science (ECS) program in the Los Angeles Unified School District, this article describes how participating in professional development activities purposefully aimed at fostering a teachers’ professional learning community helps ECS teachers make the transition to an inquiry-based classroom culture and break professional isolation. This professional learning community also provides experiences that challenge prevalent deficit notions and stereotypes about which students can or cannot excel in computer science.  相似文献
