Research Findings: As policymakers expand access to preschool, the sociodemographic composition of preschool classrooms will become increasingly important. These efforts may create programs that increase the concentration of children from low-income families or, alternatively, foster the creation of socioeconomically diverse preschool classrooms. What effect the creation of such contexts would have on very young children remains unclear. Using multilevel methods and data on 2,966 children in 704 prekindergarten classrooms, this study explores the relationship between socioeconomic classroom composition and children's social and cognitive development. The results indicate positive associations between the mean socioeconomic status (SES) of the class and children's receptive language, expressive language, and mathematics learning, regardless of children's own sociodemographic backgrounds and the characteristics of their classrooms. However, the analyses indicate no association between the development of social competence and class mean SES. Practice or Policy: The links between classroom SES and language and mathematics development were comparable in size to those associated with instructional quality and even children's own SES. Neither structural nor instructional characteristics of prekindergarten classrooms explained these relationships, suggesting the possibility of direct peer effects. Conclusion In this paper we briefly described the current status of research in the field of digital libraries interoperability, mainly
with respect to federated data processing such as permitted within the Open Archive Initiative framework. We then presented
the CERN Document Server Software suite that is a free software package main-tained by CERN providing an online digital library
solution for mid- to large-sized document repositories. The set of CDSware modules was described and the differ-ences with
other existing tools briefly mentioned. Finally we have mentioned a typical usage statistics illustrating the scope of grey
literature and networked con-ditions of the CERN Document Server.
We pointed out that the current trend in grey literature management goes toward institutional repositories build upon the
distributed and federated model. Further research is going on within the CDS collaboration in this area, focused particularly
on (i) semantic interoperability using ontologies in distributed and federated data processing and (ii) ranking technologies

There has been a growing interest in the European Didaktik tradition as part of a process of ‘internationalizing’ curriculum studies. Krüger provides useful insights into some aspects of Didaktiek in South Africa. However, the essay does not contextualize this tradition within the broader history of South African education. This reply contends that Didaktiek was interwoven with ‘fundamental pedagogics’ and as a consequence played a role in reproducing apartheid ideology—it did not provide a language of critique or possibility. This is one reason why the tradition has seen its demise in post‐apartheid South Africa. I argue that curriculum theory, which crucially deals with the relationship between schooling and society and highlights the socially constructed nature of schooling, offers a more useful alternative for critiquing apartheid education policy and for charting a process of transformation of education in South Africa. 相似文献
