La Formation Des Enseignants Au Zaire

A la suite de la réforme universitaire réalisée au Zare en 1971, les trois anciennes universités: l'Université Lovanium, l'Université officielle du Congo à Lubumbashi et l'Université libre du Congo `a Kisangani, sont devenues des campus universitaires et tous les instituts supérieurs regroupés en deux types, les instituts pédagogiques et les instituts techniques, furent rattachés aux facultés universitaires correspondantes.Une des fonctions que la Faculté des Sciences de l'Education devait assumer à la suite de cette réforme, était la formation d'enseignants qualifiés. Pour comprendre le rôle que doit jouer la Faculté d'Education dans le système de l'enseignement, il faut avoir des connaissances exactes sur le genre de formation exigée des enseignants, sur la situation réelle de leur qualification et sur leur nombre. Nous analyserons donc dans cet article, le système de la formation, les données actuelles sur les enseignants dans l'enseignement zairois aux niveauxprimaire, secondaire et supérieur.     

Effects of virtual education on academic culture： Perceived advantages and disadvantages

The perceived advantages and disadvantages of courses taught in online and face-to-face learning environments were explored for students taking an accounting and a data collection and analysis course. Both courses were taught in a face-to-face learning environment at the main or satellite campus. It was hypothesized that there would be statistically significant differences in the perceived advantages and disadvantages of courses taught in online and face-to-face learning environments. Results showed statistically significant differences between perceived advantages and disadvantages for both learning environments. Findings suggest that there are differences between the perception of advantages and disadvantages for online and face-to-face learning environments.     

Serving Community Faculty Through a Dedicated Liaison

Community-based medical schools rely heavily on volunteer faculty to provide medical education. Volunteer faculty consist of health care professionals, primarily physicians, who commit to educating medical students and residents. While these volunteer faculty are typically unpaid, many medical schools provide some benefits to them for volunteering their time. One such benefit, although rarely noted in library or medical education literature, is access to academic medical library resources and services. This article highlights a library services liaison model dedicated to the support of volunteer faculty at a community-based medical school.     

Design observations for interagency collaboration

We present 14 design observations for public safety networks (PSNs) and describe how they may apply more broadly to a wider range of inter-organizational systems within the public sector. A PSN is an interagency collaboration focused on developing and using information systems in support of information sharing and functional interoperability among public safety organizations engaged in law enforcement, criminal justice, and emergency response. We base our design observations upon an analysis of an extensive survey of 80 PSNs plus 6 in-depth case studies. The design observations identify commonalities that can guide agencies participating in interagency collaborations in addressing the interlocking issues they face. Our goal in presenting this set of design observations is to: (1) encourage improved PSN systems design and (2) draw attention to the importance of jointly addressing governance and technological considerations when designing PSNs.     

Modular variable structure adaptive backstepping controller: Design and stability analysis

This paper presents the design and stability analysis of a Modular Variable Structure Adaptive Backstepping Controller (MVS-ABC) for plants with arbitrary relative degree, using only input/output measurements. In order to improve the transient response of adaptive backstepping approach via modular design, switching laws are proposed instead of traditional integral adaptive laws. Robustness properties with respect to external disturbances are also demonstrated. Furthermore, simplified algorithms are presented, where the number of relays was significantly reduced (only one is necessary). Simulation results for an unstable system with relative degree three are shown.     

Personalizing Library Service to Improve Scholarly Communication

This presentation summarized the results from primary research conducted by Profera and Jefferson that aimed to understand what libraries are doing to reach library end users. The authors aimed to explore the relationship between the physical and virtual library space and if this has an impact on student and faculty use of library resources. The study also sought to understand the extent to which libraries are already conducting marketing efforts, the success they have had in doing so, and how publishers can help to enhance the library/end user experience.     

Creating an oasis: some insights into the practice and theory of a successful academic writing group

Academic writing groups are acknowledged as a successful approach to increasing research publication output and quality. However, the possible links between the formation and ongoing utilisation of writing groups and improvements in scholarly written research outputs remain relatively undertheorised. In this article, we draw on academic writing group literature, structuration theory and an analysis of the literature on characteristics of effective teams to explore the experiences of one successful academic writing group. By referring to these areas of literature and theory, we provide insights and tentative lessons that may be relevant to other academics in similar organisational contexts.
