Attitudes of Business Faculty Towards Two Methods of Collecting Teaching Evaluations: Paper vs. Online

Business professors were surveyed to determine their attitudes towards two methods of collecting students' teaching evaluations of faculty--the traditional paper-and-pencil method conducted in class and the online method conducted via the Internet. Faculty preferred the traditional paper method, mainly because they believed it would produce a higher and more accurate response than the online method. Faculty characteristics were examined to determine whether they were related to attitudes towards the online method of collecting teaching evaluations. No characteristics were found to be significantly associated with attitudes towards the online method. Suggestions for future researchers are offered.     

Global exact tracking for uncertain MIMO linear systems by output feedback sliding mode control

This paper presents a solution to the problem of global exact output tracking for uncertain MIMO (multiple-input–multiple-output) linear plants with non-uniform arbitrary relative degree using output feedback sliding mode control. The key idea to overcome the relative degree obstacle is to generalize our previous hybrid estimation scheme to a multivariable version by combining, through switching, a standard linear lead filter with a non-linear one based on robust exact differentiators, achieving uniform global exponential practical stability and exact tracking.     

Serum lipids in dilated cardiomyopathy

Serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were estimated in 45 dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients and were compared with 31 healthy controls. The total serum cholesterol (215±50 mg/dl) and serum triglyceride (162±76 mg/dl) levels in DCM patients did not show any significant changes as compared to normal controls. The cholesterol and triglyceride and the individual lipoprotein fractions, viz HDL, VLDL, LDL and chylomicrons were analysed in 10 patients. The values did not differ significantly when compared to those of controls. These findings suggest that serum lipids may not play a role in the antietiopathogenesis of DCM.
