Abstract

We examined the performance and organizational stressors encountered by elite and non-elite athletes within the competition environment. Twelve sport performers (6 elite, 6 non-elite) were interviewed about both performance and organizational-related demands experienced when preparing for competition. The framework presented identifies five performance (i.e. preparation, injury, expectations, self-presentation, and rivalry) and five organizational (i.e. factors intrinsic to the sport, roles in the sport organization, sport relationships and interpersonal demands, athletic career and performance development issues, and organizational structure and climate of the sport) stress sources. A similar quantity of performance (#PS) and organizational (#OS) stressors were encountered by elite performers (#PS = 127; #OS = 72) as by non-elite athletes (#PS = 123; #OS = 74), with some demands being common and others unique to each group. Although the findings suggest that, prior to competing, sport performers encounter more stressors pertinent to performance than those emanating from the organization, these observations highlight that all the demands faced by athletes should be considered when preparing and implementing interventions to manage competition stress.  相似文献

As a result of this analysis, the conclusion is drawn that laboratories, as presently conceived, fail to accomplish their objectives. This study examined performers' retrospective explanations of the relationship between anxiety symptoms, self-confidence, and performance. Interviews were used to determine how the presence of symptoms and the accompanying directional interpretation affected performance in six elite and six subelite swimmers. Causal networks revealed that perceived control was the moderatingfactor in the directional interpretation of anxiety and not the experience of anxiety symptoms alone. Symptoms perceived to be under control were interpreted to have facilitative consequences for performance; however, symptoms not under control were viewed as debilitative. Increases or decreases in self-confidence wereperceived to improve or lower performance. Findings reveal how cognitive and somatic information was processed, what strategies were adopted, and how this series of events related to performance.  相似文献

The stability properties of its solutions are studied using the discrete form of Liapunov's direct method. A quadratic form is selected as a possible Liapunov function V(n,X) and a scheme is developed for determining appropriate conditions on this function to insure that its total difference ΔV(n,X) is negative semi-definite or negative definite with respect to the difference equation. The approach is applied to the fourth-order difference equation in full detail to illustrate the method for determining the conditions which imply either uniform stability or uniform asymptotic stability and specific results are obtained. Several comments on, and extensions of, the work done by Puri and Drake for the cases m = 2 and m = 3 are presented.The results of the present approach in the homogeneous case where F[n,X(n),…,X(n+m?1)] = 0 are compared with the usual Schur-Cohn criteria and are shown to be at least as good.  相似文献

The ability of a battery of kindergarten screening measures to predict educationally relevant criteria was investigated. Subtest scores on The Vane Test of Language and The Vane Kindergarten Test administered at the beginning of kindergarten were examined and compared to the Metropolitan Achievement Test scores in reading and math, The Otis-Lennon School Ability Test index, and placement into special education or high achievement programs at the end of second grade. A weighted combination of subtests accurately predicted 77% of the children classified as special education students. The same battery also predicted 73% of the children who were classified as high-achieving students.  相似文献
