ActiveMath is a complex web‐based adaptive learning environment with a number of components and interactive learning tools. The basis for handling semantics of learning content is provided by its semantic (mathematics) content markup, which is additionally annotated with educational metadata. Several components, tools and external services can make use of that content markup, eg, a course generator, a semantic search engine and user input evaluation services. The components and services have to communicate, pass content and state changes, actions, etc including mathematical semantics and educational markup. The novel event infrastructure supports this communication. This paper focuses on the usage of the content's semantics by selected novel components and sketches the communication. 相似文献

We have initiated parallel longitudinal studies in Australia (Byrne, PI), the United States (Olson, PI), and Norway (Samuelsson,
PI) of identical and fraternal twins who are being tested in preschool for prereading skills, and in kindergarten, first grade,
and second grade for the development of early reading, spelling, and related cognitive skills. Comparisons of the similarities
of identical and fraternal twins will reveal the relative influence of genetic, shared family environment, and nonshared environment
on individual differences at and across different stages of development. Family and twin-specific environmental information
is also being directly assessed through parent questionnaires and observations by testers. Most of the data collected so far
have been from preschool twins (146 in Australia, 284 in the United States, and 70 in Norway). Preliminary analyses for the
preschool cognitive measures showed reliable genetic influences on phonological awareness and several measures of memory and
learning. In contrast, vocabulary, grammar, and morphology showed significant shared environment and negligible genetic effects.

Recommendations are offered for training counseling students to address international issues. The authors discuss, for instance, the importance of learning about cultures outside the United States, the role of bias in international work, the dangers of implementing mental health delivery systems based on models derived in the United States, how to broaden one's research methodology, and the role of social change. Data from 123 male adults were analyzed to estimate environmental influences on components of literacy skills and to explore
the impact of environmental factors in different approaches to define reading difficulty. Literacy skills were decomposed
into general cognitive function, reading comprehension, spelling, word reading, and phonological ability. Environmental factors
examined were related to home conditions, school conditions, and literacy environment. Results suggest that there is a substantial
social-cultural bias in the delineation of literacy skills and in the definitions of reading disabilities. Results also suggest
that phonological ability constitutes the only measure relatively unaffected by environmental influences. This study has brought
forward a new argument for emphasizing phonological deficits as the core component in defining dyslexia. 相似文献

The number of university students participating in exchange programs has risen sharply over the last decade. A survey of Swiss
university graduates (classes of 1999 and 2001) shows that participation in student exchange programs depends significantly
on the socio-economic background of students. We further analyze whether the participants benefit from additional advantages
caused by these exchange programs. Analyses show that student exchange programs are associated with higher starting salaries
and a higher likelihood of opting for postgraduate degrees. Analyses using instrumental variable estimations (IV), however,
show that these outcomes are not causally related to participation in exchange programs.
