Mobile applications (apps) for learning technical scientific content are becoming increasingly popular in educational settings. Neuroscience is often considered complex and challenging for most students to understand conceptually. iNeuron is a recently developed iOS app that teaches basic neuroscience in the context of a series of scaffolded challenges to create neural circuits and increase understanding of nervous system structure and function. In this study, four different ways to implement the app within a classroom setting were explored. The goal of the study was to determine the app’s effectiveness under conditions closely approximating real-world use and to evaluate whether collaborative play and student-driven navigational features contributed to its effectiveness. Students used the app either individually or in small groups and used a version with either a fixed or variable learning sequence. Student performance on a pre- and post-neuroscience content assessment was analyzed and compared between students who used the app and a control group receiving standard instruction, and logged app data were analyzed. Significantly, greater learning gains were found for all students who used the app compared to control. All four implementation modes were effective in producing student learning gains relative to controls, but did not differ in their effectiveness to one another. In addition, students demonstrated transfer of information learned in one context to another within the app. These results suggest that teacher-led neuroscience instruction can be effectively supported by a scaffolded, technology-based curriculum which can be implemented in multiple ways to enhance student learning. 相似文献

This paper proposes an analysis and a direct power control (DPC) design of a wind turbine driven doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) under unbalanced network voltage conditions. A DFIG model described in the positive and negative synchronous reference frames is presented. Variations of the stator output active and reactive powers are fully deduced in the presence of negative sequence supply voltage and rotor flux. An enhanced DPC scheme is proposed to eliminate stator active power oscillation during network unbalance. The proposed control scheme removes rotor current regulators and the decomposition processing of positive and negative sequence rotor currents. Simulation results using PSCAD/EMTDC are presented on a 2-MW DFIG wind power generation system to validate the feasibility of the proposed control scheme under balanced and unbalanced network conditions. 相似文献

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a constructivist approach to learning which is believed to promote reflective thinking in
students. This study investigated how students in one particular institution developed in their reflective thinking habits—Habitual
Action, Understanding, Reflection, and Critical Reflection—as they went through the daily practice of PBL. A 16-item questionnaire
measuring the four levels of reflective thinking habits was administered to four cohorts of students: an incoming cohort,
first-years, second-years, and third-years. First-year students rated themselves higher on Reflection and Critical Reflection,
while third-years reported the highest levels of Habitual Action. Discriminatory and scatterplot analysis on the third year
cohort revealed that while a proportion of students (47%) reported higher levels of Habitual Action with lower levels of Reflection,
there was a small subgroup who also reported higher levels of both Habitual Action and Reflection. Overall, the results showed
that PBL does promote the development of reflective thinking, particularly for first-year students, but that this development
is not sustained consistently after that. This pointed to other possible factors that could hinder students’ development of
