In New Zealand schools, the adoption and persistent use of digital tools to aid learning is a growing but uneven, trend, often linked to the practices of early adopters and/or robust wifi infrastructure. The Technology Adoption Model is used internationally to gauge levels of uptake of technological tools, particularly in commerce and also in education. However, this model is inadequate when it is used to attribute reasons for teachers adopting technologies for learning. This article offers an alternative view to understanding why teachers continue using digital technologies for learning. It focuses on the role of student voice and teachers’ pedagogical purposes as motivators, even when teachers have technological hurdles to overcome. The article engages with continuance theory as a lens for understanding these motivations via a qualitative thematic analysis of Moodle postings made by a 2012 cohort of initial teacher education students. The intention is to signpost ideas that might better explain teachers’ continued use of digital technologies in classrooms even if conditions for use are not optimal. 相似文献

Much of the research dealing with education and race has concentrated on the experiences of black males. Research now needs to address the issue of how schools affect the production of black femininities. The aim is to explore how both black males and females adapt to schooling, and school exclusion in particular. Previous theoretical models often situate black women within the stereotype of the ‘superwoman’ and negate the experiences of black females in families that are not female-headed. Previous research also suggests that much of the black male pupil response to schooling is based on the way in which teachers equate disaffection with black masculinity. The study draws on research in schools with pupils aged from 13 to 15 years when observed and interviewed. Many pupils responded to schooling in a way that cut across race and gender. Pupils often attempted to subvert the traditional relationship of teacher as powerful and pupil as powerless, reacting to this relationship through their own racial and gendered backgrounds. It is argued that teachers often speak of black pupils in homogeneous ways when in fact gendered differences exist. The issue of how schools construct blackness is addressed and it is argued that too often this is simply to equate race with masculinity. 相似文献

Abstract Currently in the United Kingdom there are several major initiatives to encourage the development of information and communications technology (ICT) in schools. However, in the past many significant educational innovations have resulted in disappointing outcomes and limited curriculum change. This article presents a three-phase model that offers guidance on how to facilitate effective curriculum change, particularly in the field of ICT. The model was derived from analysing six contrasting case studies of departmental ICT within a particular secondary school (ages 12-16 years). The article discusses the main issues identified within the case studies that led to the formulation of the model. ‘Issue trees’ were devised as a system for hierarchically grouping and presenting the factors that encouraged and discouraged ICT development across the various departments. Important aspects of the model include: gaining a firm innovative decision from a department, selling the pedagogic benefits of the innovation, the willingness of staff to undergo professional development (particularly pedagogic development), clear and positive communication channels that facilitate responsive management, and a methodical development cycle. The model has proved a useful tool for securing the effective integration of ICT into the curriculum, i.e. teachers effectively deliver appropriate ICT activities which have been adopted by the whole department and integrated into subject work schemes. 相似文献

Representative studies on Internet pornography exposure and women's sexual behavior are needed. National data were utilized to explore the association between 1,077 U.S. women's exposure to Internet pornography and number of sexual partners. Internet pornography exposure and number of sexual partners were positively correlated. This association remained after controlling for age, marital status, ethnicity, education, and religiosity. However, the association was moderated in theoretically predictable ways by women's confidence in media and perceived life dullness. 相似文献

Background
Systematic reviews risk producing biased conclusions if a comprehensive search to identify eligible studies is not undertaken, but little evidence exists to guide prioritisation of databases to search when resources are limited.Objectives
A systematic review examining interventions for managing frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) was used to investigate the performance of bibliographic databases in identifying the included studies, the smallest combination of databases required to retrieve all included studies, and the performance of the searches themselves.Methods
We calculated the yield of included studies from each of 15 databases, and the recall and precision of each search strategy. We investigated differences between the presence of a record in a database and its retrieval.Results
Thirty of 31 studies were present in at least one database. Yields of individual databases ranged from 0% to 90% (median 23%). Two combinations of databases identified all 30 studies: Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) and Science Citation Index (SCI); or CENTRAL, MEDLINE and PreMEDLINE.Conclusions
In a systematic review of a range of interventions used to manage frozen shoulder, at least two databases and reference checking were required to retrieve all included studies, but searching for future reviews should not be restricted. 相似文献519.
A laboratory study was conducted to determine the types of compliance‐gaining and compliance‐resisting strategies selected and subsequently judged for effectiveness by college students in a simulated casual drinking context. 96 participants in the study were assigned one of two conditions in the study: compliance‐gaining (attempting to induce drinking by the partner) and compliance‐resisting (resisting offers of alcohol). Results indicated that participants in both conditions utilized direct forms of social influence most often (simple offer, direct refusal). Resistance strategies were rated more effective than compliance strategies and compliance‐gaining strategies were differentially rated as effective. Heavy drinkers and moderate drinkers rated the effectiveness of compliance‐gaining strategies differently from non‐drinkers. Theoretical implications were advanced for the compliance‐gaining/resisting area, and practical implications were suggested for those interested in developing programs for campus alcohol awareness. 相似文献
