Academic Libraries and Autism Spectrum Disorder: What Do We Know?

This paper examines the rising rates of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children in the United States (1 in 59), and explores the role academic libraries can play in helping college students with ASD. A literature review of how different types of libraries (school, public, academic) support students with ASD indicates research in this area in general is lacking. Findings point to lack of adequate training and awareness for librarians and staff, resources, services and spaces are universal challenges. Several initiatives that academic libraries and librarians may consider in helping students with ASD are identified and described.     

‘Will I learn what I want to learn?’ Usable representations, ‘students’ and OECD assessment production

Amid growing debates around international assessment tools in educational policy, few have critically examined how students themselves are cast in policy tool production processes and discourse. Drawing on Stuart Hall's concept of representation, we show how higher education (HE) ‘students’ are constructed, fixed and normalized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes (AHELO) initiative. Based on an analysis of AHELO texts, we argue that the OECD, during the early stages of test production, fixes and circulates the meaning of ‘students’ as represented objects. We identify and analyze two distinct representational practices at work in AHELO texts: classifying and organizing, and marking. We posit that by fixing images of the student as an object of learning and as a consumer–investor subject, the OECD creates ‘usable’ representations of ‘students’ to claim jurisdiction over teaching and learning in HE and to justify intervention through standardized testing.     

Returned exchange students: Becoming mediating persons

This study focuses on what high school exchange students do when they return to the United States rather than on attitude charge. Returnees who had spent 2 months in Japan were asked how, with whom, and how often they shared their Japanese experience, how they dealt with stereotype questions, and in what ways they were currently involved with persons from other cultures. Results show that returnees have limited opportunities to talk about the exchange experience in school, usually deal with stereotype questions by “telling the facts” and “speaking positively,” and often communicate with and help persons of other cultures. The author concludes that returned high school exchange students are becoming mediating persons who act as bridges between cultures and offers suggestions for encouraging returnees in their mediating role.     

Behavioral assessment of communication competency and the prediction of cross-cultural adaptation

This study explores the relationship between interpersonal and social behaviors and patterns of success and failure in cross-cultural adaptation. Seven interpersonal communication skills often mentioned as being important to cross-cultural adaptation were studied: empathy, respect, role behavior flexibility, orientation to knowledge, interaction posture, interaction management and tolerance for ambiguity. For each dimension, behavioral observation indices were developed. Following a week-long predeparture training program, behavioral assessments were made on these dimensions for each person in a group of technical advisors and spouses assigned to two-year postings in Kenya. One year later, an in-the-field follow up study was conducted to assess shock dynamics, psychological adjustment, and vocational and interactional effectiveness of these individuals. Comparisons of pre and post-test measures indicated that each of the focal dimensions predicted patterns of success and failure in adaptation with varying degrees of adequacy. These results and implications for further research, and cross-cultural training and selection, are explored in the final section of the article.     

Family size and parental satisfaction: Race and sex differentials

The impact of family size on parental satisfaction is investigated with race and sex as moderating variables. From a national sample of parents, a white subsample is matched to the black sample on the basis of education, city size, and age. The association between family size and parental satisfaction is negative and low for white males and females as well as for black females. For black males, the association between family size and satisfaction is positive and moderately high. Exchange interaction and role transition are proposed as frameworks which could account for the general relationship between family size and satisfaction as well as for the black male anomaly.

晚清至民国时期西宁区域市场中的客商为保证其商品交换和贸易的顺利进行,创建山陕会馆这一商业组织为他们的商业利益保驾护航。会馆成立初只限山陕籍客商参加,不包括其他异地客商和本地的土著商人,怛随着商贸活动的发展和繁荣,会馆的范围和功能与日俱增。山陕会馆在近代西宁区域市场中扮演着重要角色,在一定程度上发挥着调和商人利益和社会矛唇的作用。     

CC-子群与有限群结构

该文主要利用CC-子群的存在性来刻画有限群。首先,从CC-子群的存在性推导了一部分已知阶群的结构;其次,推导了当次正规子群和正规子群为CC-子群时的有限群的简单结构,得到了以下主要结论：定理1（1）若｜G｜=pq,p,q为素数,若G无CC-子群,则G为交换群。（2）若｜G｜=p2qn,p,q为奇素数,若G的CC-子群个数为1,则G为q幂零群.定理2设G为有限可解群,若G的每个次正规子群均为CC-子群,则｜G｜=pq。定理3设G为有限可解群,若G的每个正规子群为CC-子群,那么｜G｜=pqn,G=〈a〉G＇,其中,〈a〉为p阶子群。     

莫高窟天王堂图像辨识

主要对天王堂上部穹隆体壁画进行了考证,结果表明其内容是依据法贤译《佛说瑜伽大教王经》的同本梵文原典《幻化网大怛特罗王》所绘的。天王堂下半部主要表现的是以胎藏大日为中心与八大菩萨、四天王像。图像的传入很可能与天息灾（法贤）、施护在曹延禄执政时期“从北天竺国诣中国,至敦煌,其王固留不遣数月”之事件相关。天王堂图像的释读对敦煌乃至中原宋代后期密教的研究有着极其重要的作用。     

霍尔效应传感器教学实验装置设计

霍尔效应是微电子领域一个重要的物理现象,基于霍尔效应开发的霍尔器件在工业、交通、科学研究中具有广泛的应用价值。在工程应用研究和大学相关专业的实践教学中,采用优良的技术方法和手段非常重要。文章研究开发一种霍尔传感器实验装置,能够按照函数发生器产生的波形生成对应的磁场形态,使磁场形态丰富多种,利于全面观察霍尔传感器;结合示波器可以更形象、直观、全面的观察分析霍尔传感器的输出特性;操作简单、使用方便、观测内容全面;为工科院校中相关专业的实验教学提供了一种有效的实验手段和方法,有利于培养学生开拓性思维和工程应用能力。在工程应用方面也是一种高效的开发实验工具。
