Using technology to break gender barriers: gender differences in teachers’ information and communication technology use in Saudi Arabian classrooms

How does teachers’ gender influence their information and communication technology-based instruction in Saudi Arabian government schools? Using unique data collected in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2014, the analyses presented here show that male and female teachers in intermediate school classrooms differently use information and communication technology. As one of the only completely gender-separated educational systems in the world, the differing pedagogies, knowledge and skills of teachers by gender in Saudi Arabia reveal the unique approaches that both the Saudi and technology context provide for students’ learning. Female teachers’ use of technology in the classroom is more frequent and of different types than that of males. Implications are discussed for teacher professional development and for understanding the important role of cultural context around gender and information and communications technology in education.     

在线异步交流的交互分析——以《网络远程教育》在线课程为例

虽然异步交流已经成为在线协作的重要途径,但是在实际交流过程中,往往无法组织起深入地协作,在线的讨论也经常流于表面。为进一步研究在线异步交流的交互特征,该文以《网络远程教育》在线课程的交互文本作为研究对象,构建了一个针对在线协作的分析框架,从认知、元认知、交互、参与和社会等5个维度探讨了交互的特征,分析了在线异步交流过程中存在的问题,并对如何组织在线异步交流提供了一些建议。     

传媒类院校工科学生对社会主义核心价值体系的认同研究

社会主义核心价值体系对大学生具有重要的引导作用。传媒院校中的工科学生是相对特殊的群体,针对这一群体的特点,以浙江传媒学院为例,进行实证调研,对这一群体对社会主义核心价值体系的认同现状进行了深度扫描。通过SPSS交叉分析、相关分析等方法,构建这一群体对社会主义核心价值体系的认同。具体而言,即发挥专业教师的引导力、提高课堂教学的吸引力、增强志愿活动的辐射力和扩大意见领袖的感染力。

商务英语函电在国际商务活动中扮演着重要的沟通角色。该门课程的教学如何进行将很大程度上决定了学生在其以后工作中和海外客户沟通的能力。通过对教学现状以及业界反馈意见的分析,明确该门课程教学中存在的问题,继而提出观念更新、教学内容组织和教学方法更新以及校企合作等一系列解决问题的措施,以更好帮助学生提高通过函电对外交流的能力,最终实现商务英语函电服务企业建立贸易关系、获取订单,解决问题等目的。     

From working group to standing committee: A history of diversity,equity, inclusion and accessibility work at the Society for Scholarly Publishing

• The Society for Scholarly Publishing's (SSP) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee began as a grassroots initiative in 2016.
• Over a a period of 4 years, the committee evolved from a six-member task force to a large standing team consisting of more than 25 individuals.
• The task force developed a strategic plan consisting of three major objectives that formed the basis of the group's strategic initiatives. The committee implemented several DEIA nitiatives that provided education and resources to SSP members about DEIA within their workplaces and promoted DEIA practices in the work that SSP committees were doing on behalf of the organization.

     

‘Cracks’ in the scholarly communications system: Insights from a longitudinal international study of early career researchers

• 170 early career researchers interviewed three times over 2 years, have uniquely contributed towards a stress test of scholarly communications and cracks have been identified.
• The perfect storm created by the convergence of millennial values and the pandemic appears to have fast-forwarded the cracking process, perhaps, for the good.
• The cracks in question are: (1) peer review; (2) reputational assessment; (3) unethical/questionable practices; (4) collaboration; (5) networking.
