A Critical Eye on a Prize: Unpacking the Meaning of “Applied Jewish Wisdom”

ABSTRACT

The analysis examines the genesis of the Lippman-Kanfer Foundation for Living Torah’s Prize in Applied Jewish Wisdom (AJW) that was first awarded in 2016. The foundation invented both the phrase AJW and the prize to highlight the qualities of Jewish content being employed by promising educators and activists in the “Jewish innovation ecosystem.” This paper traces the emergence of the term in the writing of the foundation, and then delves in the sorting process undertaken by the foundation to determine the prize winners. AJW functions as a “boundary object.” The Prize is a means of constituting AJW. The development of AJW positions the foundation to be able to claim “philanthropic authority” regarding a domain it wants to cultivate and champion. It is a way for LKFLT to assert its voice in the Jewish innovation sector and articulate a new rationale beyond simply funding innovation for its own sake.

Crossing the boundaries of imagination: The role of a public library exhibition in global learning for student teachers and teacher educators

In this paper, we utilise the theoretical concept of ‘boundary crossing’ to explore how, as Australian university teacher educators, we worked with library curators and a class of student teachers to mount a public exhibition of their group work. We consider how the students crossed ‘boundaries of imagination’ in symbolic representation and critical analysis by creating artistic installations to express global education themes. We reflect on what we, the university educators, learned about crossing institutional and pedagogical boundaries to mutually facilitate new learning. We argue for the importance of shared public pedagogy as offering new avenues for teacher education and of connecting with local communities.     

Talking about the test. Boundary work in primary school teachers' interactions around national testing of student performance

There is currently a strong belief in accountability as a policy of action and standardized testing has been implemented in several countries. This article examines tensions that occur in meetings when primary school teachers in Norway discuss national testing, and how these are handled. In particular, tensions revolve around what is seen as internal (teachers' everyday work) and external (policies and practices outside the main frame of teaching). Even though national testing is mainly seen as external to teachers' work, teachers involve in boundary work and reshape professional discourse in order to create relevance and maintain legitimacy following new expectations.

根据零件表面的数字化数据提取零件表面的边界是反求工程的关键步骤.针对完全散乱的、无组织的"点云"数据,首先,利用网格法得到边界网孔和非边界网孔,把所有相邻的边界网孔相互连接起来,得到边界网孔环;把边界网孔环中每个边界网孔的最小凸边求出来就得到一段边界线,把各个分段的边界线连接起来就得到初始边界线,然后利用B样条技术对边界线进行光顺处理,得到理想的曲面边界.实践证明,通过该方法得到的边界曲线能满足工程应用的需要.

学科的知识边界是构建学科认同的必要条件,以《图书馆学季刊》为案例,通过共词分析展示民国图书馆学研究的知识边界;研究发现,民国图书馆学研究主要分类6大领域、2大范式,管理范式的图书馆学研究延续至今,文史范式的图书馆学研究逐渐衰退;文史范畴研究的衰退是导致当代图书馆学学科地位和学科认同不高的主要原因。     

Employee Perceptions of E-mail Monitoring from a Boundary Management Perspective

This research contributes to the growing body of literature exploring employee perceptions of workplace communication monitoring and surveillance by developing an explanatory model based on predictions derived from communication boundary management theory (CBM; Petronio, 1991 Petronio , S. Retrieved September 27, 2003, from http://www.amanet.org  [Google Scholar]). Specifically, this study explores the perceptions of workplace e-mail monitoring from a cross-section of 155 workers. The data suggest that when employees feel that there is a large amount of e-mail monitoring and believe that the monitoring is inappropriate, they respond negatively to top management. The implications of these findings are discussed.
