本文反省、批评、讨论并分析了自 2 0世纪 80年代以来 ,教育经费削减对加拿大各大学的影响以及由此所产生的不良后果。文章指出 ,为弥补教育经费大幅缩减 ,加拿大各大学纷纷自行寻找经费来源 ,包括政府和企业的专项经费 ,并追求责任心声誉。由此产生的消极影响是 ,学校的科学研究方向被政府和企业的片面需求所主导 ,学校的传统及基础科学研究方向遭到削弱。此外 ,学校行政管理部门在对科研与教学进行评估时 ,借用了企业管理中的定量评估方法 ,使得教学科研人员在科研上倾向于只注重短期效应 ,在教学上则更多地迎合学生对职业技能的需求 ,而忽视了基础性教育的作用。 相似文献

Using data from Web of Science, this research investigates how physical science researchers funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research complied with its open access policy, and compares the citation counts of articles published through gold and green models.It was found that, for articles published between 2008 and 2015, 9% were available through gold open access routes and 13% were available through green routes; most were not openly accessible. Citation rates were comparable for green open access and non-open access articles, but citation rates for gold open access articles were lower. After controlling for publication year, citation rates of gold, green, and non-open access articles were comparable. Among gold open access articles, citation rates were highest for open access journals with article processing charges, but after controlling for publication year, articles published in hybrid journals, followed by those in open access journals with article processing charges, achieved the highest citation rates. Articles published in free open access journals had the lowest citation rates. The results suggest that green open access is the most economical approach to comply with open access policies, and that it provides researchers with at least as much research impact as gold open access. 相似文献

First, I describe and evaluate progress that has been made to date on implementing five recommendations made by the author to the leadership of Elliot Lake Public Library in 2014, intended to assist in disaster recovery efforts following the destruction of the library in an anthropogenic disaster in 2012. This article presents a concise, historical overview of university extension and continuing education in western Canada. It argues that, over the course of the twentieth century, the major universities in western Canada made three basic claims regarding the purposes of their extension and continuing education units. Prior to 1940, universities claimed that such units extended the resources of the university for the benefit of citizens not enrolled as full‐time students. In the 1940s and 1950s, universities claimed that such units fostered social and economic progress. Since the 1960s, universities have claimed that such units existed to meet the lifelong learning needs of individuals. This article argues that the evolution of such claims reflected ideological and political‐economic developments, such as the rise of wage labour as the primary means of making a living in the region. 相似文献

A mixed methods approach was used to explore secondary teachers’ motivation beliefs in Canada and Singapore. Results from Study 1 revealed that socio-economic status (SES) was the strongest predictor of school climate in Canada, and that collective efficacy mediated the effect of SES on school climate in Singapore, but not in Canada. In Study 2, interviews were conducted with 10 teachers in Canada and 14 teachers in Singapore. Teachers in both settings discussed students’ social and behavior problems, but the range of the social problems was greater in Canada than in Singapore, and had a stronger impact on teachers’ motivation beliefs. 相似文献
