Propensity score (PS) analysis aims to reduce bias in treatment effect estimates obtained from observational studies, which may occur due to non-random differences between treated and untreated groups with respect to covariates related to the outcome. We demonstrate how to use structural equation modeling (SEM) for PS analysis to remove selection bias due to latent covariates and estimate treatment effects on latent outcomes. Following the discussion of the design and analysis stages of PS analysis with SEM, an example is presented which uses the Mplus software to analyze data from the 1999 School and Staffing Survey (SASS) and 2000 Teacher Follow-up Survey (TFS) to estimate the effects teacher’s participation in a network of teachers on the teacher’s perception of workload manageability. 相似文献

The main focus of this paper is on the study of students' conceptual understanding of two major concepts of Set Theory – the concepts of inclusion and belonging. To do so, we analyze two experimental classroom episodes. Our analysis rests on the theoretical idea that, from an ontogenetic viewpoint, the cognitive activity of representation of mathematical objects draws its meaning from different semiotic systems framed by their own cultural context. Our results suggest that the successful accomplishment of knowledge attainment seems to be linked to the students' ability to suitably distinguish and coordinate the meanings and symbols of the various semiotic systems (e.g. verbal, diagrammatic and symbolic) that encompass their mathematical experience. 相似文献

Science enrichment programmes housed outside traditional school settings offer unique opportunities to access and use authentic scientific tools and practices, especially for urban students whose school science experiences often lack resources. Yet opportunities to access these tools and practices are realized only when science teachers value them sufficiently to take advantage of them. This study examines how eight urban secondary science teachers evaluated a specific out‐of‐school science enrichment programme—a one‐year partnership with a local university science outreach centre, which culminated in a half‐day laboratory experience for their students. Teachers’ perceptions were captured through interviews and surveys. Findings indicate that these teachers came to identify and value many of the potential benefits for out‐of‐school enrichment programmes reported in the literature as well as some additional ones. The teachers’ also showed a shift over time with respect to their perceptions of the value of the out‐of‐school experience, moving from an initial focus on increasing test scores toward a greater appreciation for its impact on students’ motivation and identity development. The study offers insight into secondary science students’ and teachers’ identity needs, and what universities can offer to address them. 相似文献

This article identifies and describes three dimensions of systemic thinking—thinking holistically, thinking dynamically, and thinking in terms of feedback loops. We contend that within the field of business a significant amount of attention has been paid to holistic thinking, but relatively little to the other two dimensions. In addition, we present evidence that managers will need to more fully develop systemic thinking skills as business systems become even more interdependent in the 21st century. Tools are presented that can be used in any area of business to help students develop their systemic thinking skills and gain better insights in their respective fields of study. Examples of how to introduce and use these tools in the classroom are also provided. 相似文献

[目的/意义]旨在为阅读推广后续研究提供参考。[方法/过程]分别以CNKI和WOS数据库作为数据来源,利用Bicomb2.0和SPSS软件进行共词分析和聚类分析,绘制战略坐标图,并梳理国内外阅读主题领域研究热点的成熟度。[结果/结论]国内外的阅读推广研究均发展到了较为成熟的阶段,但在国内图情领域还未发展成为领域核心,国外的相关研究中计量学等传统情报学分析技术方法利用更为广泛深入。数字阅读和移动阅读成为国内图情领域阅读主题研究的核心。社会化阅读、社交媒体与用户生成信息研究在国内外都还处于发展阶段,相关研究理论还未形成成熟的体系。 相似文献
